Braves @ Cubbies: At least we've won a World Series in the last 100 years
Atlanta Braves at Chicago Cubs, Jun 10, 2008 8:05 PM EDT
Nothing I love more than making fun of Cubs fans (except maybe making fun of Mets fans, but after last year that's just too easy). Cubs fans seem to have a rubbery resilience that is impervious to logic. Perhaps because it's so cold up there the brain's ability to surrender is impaired. On some level you have to admire their sticktoitiveness in the face of such crazy and repetitively devastating circumstances.
The Cubs have been playing averageish baseball lately, so if we can pull ourselves out of this collective team funk we're in, then perhaps we can pick up a few wins in the Windy City.

I took the final two games of the Philly series off after that abortion of a game on Friday (although I did turn it on once to see FYF DIDP with the bases loaded and 1 out. I turned it back off right away). It honestly was the most upset I’ve been about a loss in years.
I think I’m ready to watch again tonight. Lilly has been extremely average this season, but has not walked many and is striking people out at close to a K per inning.
acronym overload…
...yes, it’s a typo but it doesn’t feel like it’s too far off from what FYF did that at bat.

you just saved my night. i couldn’t find it on extra innings, and didn’t even think to look on wgn…it has been a long time

You know...
I’m sure that’s fine with many people here, but this little shit has ruined it for me. You could’ve made a separate fanpost for your 20-second squeeze-off and left this to the baseball and general camraderie that most of us came here for.
Dude, grow the FUCK up.
I’ll miss the rest of you…
nooooooooo
Don’t leave Lizziebeth! We value your in-game contributions!
Damnit chopchop, you’ve crossed the line.
Hey
I deleted that pic and I banned him. I think he was a guy who signed up as another user who I earlier banned, then he came back here to… well, I have no idea whey those kind of people say and do the things they do. Whatev’
Hey, if these kinds of people start hanging around more often saying radically moronic things and inciting people, please send me an email (bottom of main page) and I’ll get rid of them quicker.
thanks gondeee
...for taking the time out from drinking Jagerbombs with strippers to do your TC duties. Much appreciated!
I'm here for you!
I resemble all these remarks about my drinking…
Anyway, this yahoo, chopchop, has also been three other users which I have banned, chopped, larrysucks, and BravesSuc. I’ll try to keep an eye out for anymore usernames which he creates and we’ll try to get him from showing us how moronic he is again. Keep in mind with guys like this, it’s best not to buy into their stupidity. Again, if you can just ignore them or send me an email and let me know they’re buggin.
Lineups
Your Atlanta Braves:
Y. Escobar ss
K. Johnson 2b
J. Francoeur rf
M. Teixeira 1b
G. Norton lf
B. McCann c
O. Infante 3b
G. Blanco cf
T. Glavine p
The hosting Chicago Cubs:
A. Soriano lf
R. Theriot ss
D. Lee 1b
A. Ramirez 3b
G. Soto c
K. Fukudome rf
M. DeRosa 2b
R. Johnson cf
T. Lilly p
So a couple things stand out...
No Chipper. Francoeur batting third. Norton in LF. Anderson is MIA. Yunel batting lead-off, yet again. Holy Cow.
no chipper, huh…
absolutely no reason heap should be hitting 6th anymore

Oh, and in case everybody has been living in...
...a house made from vodka boxes (like gondeee), the Cubs home record is 26-8. Our road record is 7-21.
Lilly had given up 10 ERs on 22 hits in his previous 3 outings of 14.1 innings…But his last outing he lasted 7.1 innings, 2 ER and 8K (that’s right), 2 BB.

The Associated Press
Published on: 06/10/08Birmingham, Ala. — John Smoltz had surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his right shoulder and his hopes for a comeback in 2009 remain uncertain.
Dr. James Andrews and an associate performed the arthroscopic procedure. Smoltz said last week he expected to get a definitive word on his comeback hopes from the operation, but no such announcement followed the procedure.
“The prognosis on John’s shoulder is unclear based on the findings of today’s surgery,” said Braves general manager Frank Wren. “We will know more as John starts to progress through his rehab.”
Smoltz, 41, was on the disabled list twice with shoulder problems before ending his season to have the surgery.
“They repaired a lot of damage,” said Braves manager Bobby Cox before Tuesday night’s game in Chicago.
When asked about Smoltz’s future as a pitcher, Cox said “We’ll see. He’ll start his rehab tomorrow.”
Too funny.
Ok, so you’ve probably heard me talk about my PTV feed, right? I don’t actually get the channel, just the feed during games. So no commercials. Well, right now it just has the camera guys “warming-up” I suppose. I just watched him follow a squirrel hopping around on the field for about a minute. Now, the guy is just panning the crowd and zooming in on hot chicks.
haha, that reminds me of some of the wierd shit i saw on MLB.tv last year

I know Anderson has little...
...experience, but Norton has a .642 career OPS against LH in like 430 career PAs
I'd like to point out that
our lineup is about as not scary as it could be. Only with Corky would it be worse.
yeah…i died a little inside when i saw FYF just come up instead of chipper.

Pete and the Lemmer
Are claiming Chipper could have played today but Bobby is giving him his standard extra day.
Man we better get a freaking run.
Or this is gonna be a long, long, long road trip.
was that the last thing you expected?
by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 10, 2008 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions
They have to warn both sides.
It’s how they do it. Otherwise the team can retaliate without any penalty.
Really? I thought they could just warn one side.
But that makes sense.
I can’t wait until Lilly gets up to bat. Heap has a bit of fire in that belly of his these days.
Well I suppose
I might be speaking out my ass when I say have to, but I’m pretty sure they almost always do.
No kidding.
If that sort of thing becomes even semi-regular, getting hits with men on, we could maybe win more than one game on this trip.
I don’t condone laziness. Please don’t tell me you leave your shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot.
not THAT lazy...
that shit pisses me off, because there will be an open spot and I’m cruising along, only to find a frickin’ cart in it.
Most of the time I just push it out of the way with my car. No lie, one time I pushed one all the way across the row and into a corral with one little tap from my front bumper.
It’s the little things in life…
See above.
It pisses me off, but I’m still too lazy to get out of the car and move it. Plus, I don’t drive a Lexus. Yep, push that bad boy out of the way.
Just got in...
...and it looks like I missed some action already. RAKE!! And chopchop is gone, oh darn (PLEASE note the sarcasm).
Add my thanks, Gondeee.
Figures
I stay on the site pretty much all day at work, and I get home, open up the game thread a little late, and that’s what happens.
Oh well. Decent first inning for Glavine. If we can steal one A) on the road B) against a lefty, and C) without Chipper, I’ll be as shocked as anyone.
Let's hope Tommy
doesn’t realize it and give up 7 runs though.
Man.
Escobar better hit a homerun too. This whole average with RISP is terrible.
So...
I didnt have time to read everything I missed….did Lizziebeth come back?? Fucking Chopchop!
What happened?
I didn’t see anything of this?
Basically
He crossed the line. It was an inappropriate picture that basically showed a girl with her breasts hanging out. Not only was she offended by that, but I think it was the straw breaking the camel’s back. I hope Lizzie comes back, but can’t say I’ll miss chopchop.
That just pisses me off for a host of reasons.
Not the least of which is the fact that I’m at work and if shit like that just pops up… Kill a fool.
That also was likely part of the reason.
I actually thought chop had come around. His Smoltz post was kinda nice earlier today. Apparently my initial instincts were correct.
He realy pissed me off the other night...
I was drunk sure but that kid is a tool!
Come on Tommy.
I don’t know what is up with him, but give him run support and he just falls apart this year.
time for him to wiggle out of this one

Anybody see that
the D-train got sent to single-A today? Not that it matters to us anymore…just found it amusing.
after he went 0.1 IP with 8 ER and 5 BB? not that surprising

WTF happened. article I was reading on mlb.com says the Tigers think his stuff is there for the most part, so it has to be mental.

If it was any other manager
I would say he was out of his mind. But Bobby, I can’t say anything bad about. He has to know what he’s doing. I can’t think that he’s out of touch.

Man.
Glavine just isn’t the same. You’d think he was an old man or something.
Chip and Joe
were talking about the Eamus Catuli sign…They said the AC = After Championship…actually means Anno Catuli.
FYI
Apparently
The Cubs defense hasn’t gone down the crapper…
Another long half-inning of rest for the Tommy.
I'm glad I'm leaving work soon. I don't
actually want to listen to the end of this.
just a heads up, i’m going to chilis to watch the beginning of the game tomorrow. based on tonight, i probably won’t be around for the end. this is so depressing.
Pujols
Cooking dinner, Gnortony crushes a three-run bomb.
Sit down to eat with the roommate, and last thing I see is Atlanta failing to score after Infante triples.
Feel dread while I eat and watch something else.
Turn tv on after dinner, and see 4-3 score, with Buddy on the mound.
Feel dinner bubbling up an encore.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Wow
All I have to say is that it’s about time chopchop’s gone. Good riddance.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Whenever I make an analogy about how first-inning runs aren't important...
Unfortunately they always apply to the Braves.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I just...
...don’t really feel like watching this game. It’s bad enough that SportSouth replays games on a regular basis, but these games are all starting to blend into one another, with the blank offense.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
You know though
It doesn’t matter if this team were a basement dweller – I’d still go to games, and be posting here.
Think about what it’s like in Baltimore, Washington, or Kansas City? They still have fans that show up to their games, and post to their forums. I don’t think a lot of people realize how fortunate we are to have a team that’s often competitive every year, even if we have missed the playoffs the last few years.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I won't give up hope
It’s just depressing to watch sometimes. I look forward to Marmol and Wood – as lights out as Marmol supposedly is, the Braves often respond well to those situations.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Sadly
Every time we’ve touched up Lidge, it’s only to score one out of two, or tie up the game. Never to cause him to lose.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Just said on WGN, Glavine left the game with an elbow strain and is expected to miss his next start,
Chipper's wearing a helmet
Possible PH?

What's up pimps and players??
Man, I just spent the last hour reading all of the post. Been a busy day on here huh?
Looked way busier...
there was like 8 billion posts in the fan post section, and then I had to read all of them on the game thread.
Wuss
Lilly’s a wuss. Throw at heads, and then shrivel up against the real deal.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
The 3-0 pitch
was a mistake Chip should have crushed. I think he was surprised that it was hittable…and took it
As much as I don't care for him
Lidge had like 157 Ks in 94 innings.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Don't worry Acosta is like a magic 8 ball
If he gets out of this unharmed, it means it’s a meaningless game, and we may as well turn off our televisions. If he allows a run, it means we’ll score two runs in the 9th, and fall one short.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Keep it on
If you want false 9th inning hope.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
hey...
this is probably dumb…but anybody notice how most of the guys don’t wear the new helmet style?
notice how Andruw always did?
notice how Frenchy does now (but used to not)?
I bet the new style of helmet is bringing frenchy down.
Thank Pujols
For Brian McCann.

I can’t believe how perfectly I called the Acosta theory.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I wish
I would be all like “Alfonso. There is no bat.”
And then Soriano would be in the box without a bat, all of a sudden, but then still get unintentionally walked by Acosta, steal second, and be driven home by DeRosa.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Let's go with the reverse bigjoe blown save.

I’m declaring this game over.

someone please PLEASE
tell me what Bobby sees in the a-hole. Acosta is a great pitcher. In a slow-pitch, neighborhood pickup game where everyone’s a winner. As long as they hit off of Manny.
Or, maybe he should just be the BP pitcher.
Honestly
I don’t say much bad about anybody, that isn’t true. But Acosta, you are the suckiest suck that ever sucked. Honestly. How do you sleep at night? You must not care, because you are terrible. But I don’t blame him. He is probably doing his best. I couldn’t do any better, that’s for sure. In this one, I blame Bobby- which I rarely do. Why bother using him? Has he proven that we can count on him? We eeked out of his first inning. Why tempt Pujols and leave him out there? Shit. Put in Gotay to pitch for all I care. But why on Earth is Manny in any pressure situation? Somebody fetch some numbers to show me how bad he sucks. That way, what I’m saying isn’t subjective.
Goodnight folks. I’m going to drink until Manny is a memory.
gotta go…my damn weiner-kids are listening…

H, Billy Mays here! Do you want a pitcher that can’t get out of an inning without allowing a run?! Then buy Manny Acosta. He’ll give up more runs than a bullpen full of Dan Kolbs and Bob Wickmans!
In a few minutes, there will be a number on your screen. Call and order Manny Acosta today and you to can start losing games. Call in the 15 minutes and I’ll throw in a CF that can’t make a straight throw and a RF that has one heck of an arm and can ground into double plays like nobody’s business!
CALL 1-800-781-7529. TELL ‘EM BILLY SENT YOU!
