Somebody, Please Talk Me Down from the Ledge!

Alright, so I am trying to stay optimistic despite yet another abysmal roadtrip of 1-5 against two teams in the NL Central we should have beaten handily. Being shutout by the Brewers and losing 2 one-run games in extra innings (which I saw first hand) pretty much had my stomach churning. However, as I am listening to the game today and hear the bottom of the seventh inning, I nearly had to pull-over in my car to vomit. A costly error, Hudson going down, a wild pitch to score a run, Boyer going down, and Buddy Carlyle. What a way to get swept.

Before you think I'm all doom and gloom, that isn't the point of this post. I think we will still be fine in the grand scheme of things, but I'd like some reassurance. Some road wins would go a long way to settle my stomach and lower my blood pressure. But more importantly, we all need to keep thinking positive thoughts.

The point of this FanPost is to start a thread for all of us to write something positive to get our minds off the past 6 games. Everybody likes different things, so be my guest to write whatever will lift your spirits. 'Beard, give us some stats that show we're much better than our record. Royhobbs, when you get back, give us another story about trying to meet your wife at a game. Bigjoe, tell us about your favorite Braves moment that will undoubtedly be tied to drinking your favorite growler. Lizziebeth, remind us how good-looking John Smoltz is. You get the idea.

Personally, I like pictures. This simple photo reminds me that I've seen a lot of really good baseball over the years. That's what is keeping me going right now.

This FanPost does not express the views or opinions of Talking Chop.

I Like It.

I think we can all agree that these losses hurt, but I’m with you on turning a corner. I still believe this is a good team and we’ll work things out.

Please check out my blog at http://thefulldeck.blogspot.com/ , now redesigned and recommited!

I like the way the team battled back into Saturday's game.

And Jurrjens stayed in that game waaaaaayyyyy longer than I thought he would.

meetign?

does SNBlogs or Talking Chop have any real sway? Maybe some point we could set up a field trip. And meet this man. Geez i’m emotional today.

AC/DC

last time i saw Smoltz pitch the end of the game he came out of the pen to “Thunderstruck” at which point Turner Field turns into the craziest place on earth, the entire crowd is rocking and SMoltz dominates hitters making them look like little leaguers and we go home with a 5-4 win (yes we will start winning these one-run games)

Haha...

...everytime the growler gets brought up, I just start laughing out loud.

Smoltz

coming back to close out games can be just what we need to start winning these dang games. Soriano as a setup man and Gonzalez pitching the 7th. We might be ready to go on a roll now, maybe.

We still have Chipper Jones too.

Plus in less than 2 weeks we’ll get Kotsay back, and Kelly will go back to the 7 hole where he belongs. Hell, Blanco may be leading off by then too. The Rake will go back to pinch-hitting. I think Kotsay coming back will be a big boost. Who’da thought that when the season started?

Wow. This might be my new desktop wallpaper.

by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 2, 2008 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions

i got it from Yahoo! sports a few weeks ago.

They always have the pics from AP up on the team page. If you go to Chipper’s player page, its under his photo section. Its been on my laptop for a few weeks now, i just think its a great photo.

HAHAHAHA

Yeah right Hampton is done for good the only thing he is useful for is carrying the team luggage

by jjcollins on Jun 2, 2008 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

His arms would actually fall off if he lifted any luggage.

It starts tonight...

...we really need to make a statement and sweep the Fish this series. We’re at home. We’ve just finished up a putrid road trip. We’ve got 1st place Philly coming into town afterwords. Soriano is back. Smoltz is expected to be back today. Gonzalez could be back soon.

I hope Jo-Jo brings his A game today, because this feels like a statement game to me.

by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 2, 2008 1:35 PM EDT reply actions

Yes.

And I think we can/will sweep the fish. They have a good team, but they are still vulnerable. If we can come out and get some offense early to give JoJo something to work with I think we can start off the series with a win tonight. But, that means that guys that have “cooled off” a bit like Blanco and Escobar need to get back into the groove and Norton, Frenchy and Johnson need to swing the bat well.

I hope you guys are right

Because if we play the next 7 like we played the last 6, we’re gonna be in a pretty deep hole.

Fingers crossed.

you have to admit….

This is a fine looking man:

smoltz to the SPGA

Tiger said once that Smoltz could make it in the SPGA circuit.

Thank heavens. I mean, that Jayson Stark article really creeped me out. And saddened me. We are actually coming close to the era without Smoltz and Chip. We actually need to embrace these younguns, they are the future.

All this is a little sweeter when knowing that we might still be able to see Smoltz compete. Sure, the ball will be smaller and dented, we’ll praise the uppercut swing, and most likely will have to add about 30 years to our ages, but watching John again will be all worth it.

by traphicg on Jun 2, 2008 4:02 PM EDT reply actions

I am completely prepared to start watching golf on TV if he plays.

by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 2, 2008 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

At the recent Braves Power Lunch...

one of the questions he was asked was something like “There are rumors that you may try to play on the SPGA circuit after you retire. Is that a possibility?” His answer? “Oh, those aren’t rumors. I WILL play on the Senior Circuit.” That’s my Smoltzy!

by sddbaker on Jun 2, 2008 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

It's really hard

To imagine the Braves without Chipper and Smoltz. I hate the thought of it.

by WienerDog on Jun 2, 2008 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Man...

...Imagine all of us trolling around on SPGA golf blogs, polluting the comments section with Jamie Kotsay and Wiggling Butt Smoltz graphics every time he notched a win.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on Jun 2, 2008 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Since we're all being sentimental...

...thought I would post this pic that I found online.

My two boyz!

I saw this pic..

earlier this year and loved it. What in the world is going on there? Absolutely my two favorite Braves.

Speaking of good pics...

...I saved the one of Smoltz in the dugout from the Jayson Stark story on espn.com. It is really good. I put it on my desktop, and it’s one of those pictures where he just seems to be staring right into your eyes. Here it is:
