Braves @ Reds: It has become laughable
Atlanta Braves at Cincinnati Reds, Jun 1, 2008 1:15 PM EDT
Laugh -- hysterically at times -- that's about all you can do with this one-run-loss-ness that we just can't stop talking about (because it keeps happening). I've also been doing a lot of blank staring at the TV screen after some of these games or after each successive inning that we either can't score or give up a lead.
It's so frustrating to see this team come so close so many times. We know how good they "can" be, but they keep coming up short on the road, and that is keeping them from being the team everyone is looking up at in the division.
I know that I said I was excited to see the young Cincinnati players like Jay Bruce play in this series, but I'm ready to see them for the last time today, especially Bruce who is an f-ing stud in the batter's box.
Huddy needs to play the role of stopper and ace of this Braves staff today.

The return home
I’m not going to the game today, so maybe we can actually be the 2nd to last place team in the NL Central. Maybe we can actually play like we are capable of playing? Maybe we can stop Bruuuuuuuuuuuuce from ripping us a new one. Maybe.
I’m heading back home today, so I’ll probably be on the road trying to tune in for the game this afternoon. Will be glad to get back to the land of SportSouth to see some televised games again.
I’ll try to post a few pictures from the past two games when I get a chance. No real highlights from yesterday’s game. I wasn’t heckled and didn’t get beer on anybody. Nor pizza.
Will need someone to post one last time, in the event we win.

Go Bravos. Win one for the gondeee today!
Here's to you...
having a good trip home, and us hopefully being able to post those pictures this afternoon.
I'm going
To a single A game today (Salem Avalanche, Rockies affiliate) so I won’t have to endure another road loss while it is actually happening. Good luck to those of you watching the carnage…
If the Atlanta Braves make a call to the bullpen on Monday, it’s possible John Smoltz could answer. The rehabbing pitcher will likely be out there when the team opens its series against the Florida Marlins.
Smoltz, who went on the DL on April 29 with a sore right shoulder, made his third and final minor league rehab appearance on Saturday, tossing a scoreless inning of relief for Class A Rome.
The 41-year-old said he’s counting on being activated from the 15-day disabled list before Monday’s game.
“Monday is still the plan,” Smoltz told MLB.com. “The good thing is I didn’t exactly feel great coming into today, and I threw the ball much better, so those are encouraging signs for me because you’re never always going to feel good.”
The 1996 NL Cy Young winner came on in the eighth inning Saturday and retired four batters. He fanned one along the way.
Smoltz’s return would mark his second stint in the Braves’ bullpen. He posted 154 saves from 2001-04 before returning to the rotation.
And while he’s looking forward to his return, Smoltz said he’s hoping nerves don’t get the best of him.
“The first game, walking out the doors, is going to be very interesting to see how I handle it,” Smoltz told MLB.com. “And I look forward to it, but I think the only thing is if I try to be too fine, too good, too perfect the first game.
“I’m not going to let the outcome determine my progress. I know how to pitch, and I know what the circumstances call for. I’m going to calm myself down, and I have to rely on that.”
HUZZAH!!!!
YAY!
I was listening to the last part of that game when they called him in. Even through the incompetent bumbling announcer, It sounded like he was fine (knocking on my wooden head)...even throwing over to first a couple of times to keep the runner on.
Sweet.
We lost
0-5 to the Phillies on 5/15 and and 0-5 to the Bucs on 5/12. 2-5 to the Pirates in the same series.
What am I missing?

Ugh..
...Norton shouldn’t be starting period. He looks lost out there, I know he’s supposed to be an outfielder..but common! Anderson should be starting, better glove – better speed.
What's the deal?
Why doesn’t he do something different? I think Joe Simpson is going to go down and forcibly take over the dugout. He wants Gregor batting first…
SOME FUN TEX SPLITS!!!!
he’s now played the same amount of games this year as he did for us last year, one less AB this year too so the comparison seems just. heres a little comparison to show you why we’re disappointed…
2007: .317/.404/.615. 17 HR, 56 RBI. 2 GIDP. TWO!!!!
2008: .271/.356/.440. 7 HR, 39 RBI, 9 GIDP.
I bet
Josh Anderson’s family is really pissed. He’s from Kentucky, not too far from Cincy, and have been at all the games. Instead Nortony keeps getting the start in left.
Yeah..
..that’s who I’m listening too. But I noticed before they said anything, that he was dropping down side arm more than I’ve seen before.
Yessir! Horrible…I guess we shouldn’t complain to much, he caught it. Though if it were Anderson, I don’t think he would’ve had to have left his feet to catch that…
Hey all...
...just checking in. Remember when we swept the Mets and were 5 games above .500? That was fun.
Well...
...the Bob Wickman Month ended with a 17-12 record overall, which is pretty damn good. Of course, going 2-5 this last week certainly has put all of us in a sour mood.
Now the Matt Diaz Month begins!
No not at all....
....but for some reason with Norton, it’s a bit painful. He defiantly got his money’s worth on that swing..
Interestingly enough...
...on the first pitch of an at bat this season, Yunel is hitting over .400 (.405 to be exact). Not that it means dick..
F'n Cinci TV...
..showing Heap in the the dugout and throw up a graphic about how that was his 20th double of the season…
They should get Rake a different #
..he shouldn’t be allowed to wear the Lemmers only number! He’s not gritty enough! Or short enough for that matter…
Now..
..is the time for the Braves to be patient at the plate. His command/control is going out the window quick like.
did we just burn Ring on….
Paul freakin Bako?

I'll agree with you...
even though I don’t think he’s even bothering to dress out and come to the games much anymore. I’m sure it’s much more fun running around spending all that money that you did absolutely nothing for…like racing cars or something…

This is my day:
Low: Turn on the TV we are down by three
High: We hit two bombs, down 3-2
Low: This inning.
I really thought Stockman would get in the game today before he gets sent down for Smoltz tomorrow.
Then again, we may send down Anderson so we have 14 pitchers.
