Infante's Back...Does it Matter?

Omar Infante will be activated tonight before the game.

If Infante was so close to being activated, why did we go and get Norton? Especially since we have to send Bryan Pena to the DL to make room for him. I guess my question is that we need more than an extra bat in dugout, such as relievers, so why did we get Norton?

Just for the record, Infante went 4-11 with 1 BB, 1 SO at AAA.

I'd say to build bench depth...

Would the Braves really want to go all season with Infante+Gotay+Prado+Pena+Miller on the bench? I doubt it. Now, we have proven veterans on the bench with Norton and Infante, and the latter who can play just about any position with ease. Norton is an upgrade over anyone currently on the bench and so is Infante.

Keep in mind that Norton was acquired on Sunday afternoon, BEFORE Prado went down. A roster decision was to be made, but Prado’s injury made the roster decision simple.

Infante and Norton are significant upgrades over anyone currently on the bench. This is just about building depth and improving our bench. I don’t think it had anything to do with the closeness of Infante coming back.

Good points

You are probably right, and it probably is likely we were looking to send Pena or Miller down. So when Prado is healthy, who stays and who goes? I haven’t really seen too much from Gotay that makes me think we should keep him on the bench, especially with Infante and Norton. But, that means we have a bench full of infielders…

I love Gotay...

...his numbers certainly are not spectacular, but in strictly PH duty he got on base at a .350 clip. Not too shabby. It seems like every time he is up he works the count. Only been one AB I can remember that lasted less than 3 pitches. The game he filled in for Kelly at 2B he also made a couple of plays that Kelly would have probably botched.
