Anyone do the Baseball Card thing?
As a kid i loved collecting baseball cards. As an adult, I still love it. My collection spans from braves, to non braves and has a ton of variety. Over the past year I have begun to collect cards of Brave minor leaguers. You can view it at...

Do you collect? Lets see your collection. Want to start collecting? Maybe I can help point you in the right direction.
Also, anyone going to Rome tommorow night? I am going to be there with a few friends. I will post a couple of videos of the action and maybe a scan or two of an IP autographs.

I used to be a huge collector. Have over 600 Chippers and 200 Madduxes and am looking to fill a shit ton of holes over the summer since I’ll have some money to burn. Last summer I sold a ton of my high ticket items since I didn’t have a job and got hosed bigtime on the value of them. Wish I had most of that back.

I’ve collected seriously for a couple of years now. I used to buy the bubble gum packs as a kid, but nothing like today. Now a days, I collect all Braves, but I focus most of my collection toward Frenchy. Here’s a link to the site

well, If I didn’t have the gold refractor, I’d might be jealous…...
Who am I kidding, I’m still jealous, although I’d rather upgrade my xfractor before my refractor.

Minor Leaguers
Do you collect the minor league cards the teams put out? At Rome, you can get team sets for around $10. The last time I checked, you could still get the 2003 set with McCann, Frenchy, and the rest.
I collected cards until 1990 or so. Back in the day you had Topps, Fleer, and Donruss. Then came Upper Deck and Bowman. And then the floodgates opened, prices jacked throught the roof, and I quit buying cards completely. Every now and then I’ll pick up a pack of the draft picks and prospects packs at Target, but only then if I need to break a $20 or something. I hate paying $2 for 6 or 8 cards – it’s ridiculous. So now, I usually buy 2 sets of the Rome team, and I order throught the mail 2 sets of Danville and 1 set from Myrtle Beach. I did get 2 sets when Will Startup was in Mississippi. But, like I said, you get the whole team for $10. I get them signed as well, and that’s easy to do in Rome.

btw, Bowman = owned by Topps. And nowadays, Fleer has been bought out by Upper Deck, and Donruss doesn’t have a baseball license anymore. Donruss losing their license was a HUGE way to knock me out of collecting, because I loooooooved Donruss game-used cards.

Yes, prices on packs are rediculous. I rarely buy un opened products. I buy a ton of singles on ebay. Why spend 30$ on a few packs and hit nothing when i can buy a nice Chipper Jones certified auto on ebay for 30$

collecting
I used to collect as a kid back in the late 80’s-early 90’s, when the hobby was spiraling downward. i can remember thinking those Stadium Club’s of Ken Griffey Jr were gonna be worth $100 some day! Of course any Braves card was gold to me and i had a notebook that all Braves cards went in. I got out of it in my teen years, but when i started dating my now wife a few years ago, i saw my future father in law was collecting. i was amazed at what was being done with cards, putting pieces of jerseys and bats in cards. i started getting back into slowly, but now i’m back into it full bore. I have gotten quite a collection of hall of famer game used cards: Ty Cobb bat, Ted Williams jersey, Joe Dimaggio jersey, Mickey Mantle jersey, Hank Aaron jersey, Eddie Mathews jersey, and many others. I buy most of my high dollar cards on ebay, i can’t afford the risk of those expensive boxes. But my proudest moment was when i did buy an expensive box, and pulled a Babe Ruth jersey card. I’m still in shock of how lucky i was! I still keep a Braves only notebook, with Chipper as my favorite player to collect. I just finished up an effort to collect every team checklist card of the Braves (the ones with the team picture). These cards were made from 1956-1981, and started back up again in 2001. Its cool to see all those teams lined up in row. I’ve also gotten into the prospect craze, mainly focusing on Braves prospects, getting auto’d cards of Heyward, Jurrjens, Gorkys Hernandez, Cody johnson, Jeff Locke, Tommy Hanson, and others too. Besides the Ruth card, my other pride is my Braves shadow box, and i’ll try to get that picture up for ya’ll to see. The coolest card in their is from 2007 Triple Threads-a six player card that spells out “Braves”, with game used items of McCann, Francouer, Chipper, smoltz, andruw, and Hudson.

I have been trying to...
...get players to auto cards…I don’t have anything really stellar, but I have got a few decent ones. There are some websites out there that give you addresses of guys that do sign and return cards. www.stararchive.net (I think) is one. I’ve recently been buying up some cheap, older Braves cards that aren’t worth much in hopes of getting them signed eventually. I am hoping to start back up this summer.

Did you get that Chipper signed in person? I have a Phil Niekro auto from the same set signed, they look pretty sweet signed. Here’s mine http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m173/penno21/Braves%20Personal%20Collection/TTM/?action=view¤t=niekrottm.jpg
Also, that Triple Threads relic is amazing, I’ve been trying to pick one up for awhile, but the hardly pop up anymore.
by penno on May 9, 2008 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah it was tough
Yeah, i got Chipper to sign that at Fanfest 2005. Those Donruss Champions cards were made perfectly to autograph. The Triple Threads card was tough, i lost out on several, but ended up winning it for cheaper than i lost on the others, i think i got it for right at $40, its been awhile. Its one of those cards where you see it, and say “i must have it!”

i love collecting baseball cards, i have everything from a 1919 tobacco card to a graded maddux rookie. but, my most prized item is a signed smoltz jersey. i went to spring training and got him to sign it personally. he’s a great guy, very friendly

i spent $140 on chippers from the early 90s i didn’t have yesterday thanks to you assholes. filling these holes is going to be A PAIN IN THE ASS.
by bigjoe on May 9, 2008 6:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
ha!
don’t worry about holes man, just buy what you like. Right now is a bad time to buy Chipper, prices are really high. I am actually going to unload some game used cards of Chipper because prices are up, and I do not like the game used. I greatly perfer the autographs.

Have you tried buying “lots”? Usually you can get sometimes near 100 cards for just a few bucks, if its regular cards you’re looking for.
