There's nothing like playing one of the worst teams in baseball to help get you back in a division race of your own. The Pads offense has been - how shall I put this - abysmal? Atrocious? Ghastly? We'll go with that. Anyways they have the second fewest runs scored in the NL and the worst AVG and OPS.
The thing is their pitching is still pretty good, the starters at the very least. Their starters ERA is right behind ours at 3.84. Their bullpen ERA is last in the league though so we need to work the count on the starters.
We get Chris Young first but luckily we will miss Peavy in the series so we have a good shot throughout with Hudson and Reyes throwing the next two games. Jurrjens will pitch tonight and we all know he has been at worst solid this season and at best a revelation by angel Gabriel.
Alright people get to chatting I want 500 posts by 9 o'clock.

I'd say so...
... you know Bobby’s philosophy, “Start ‘em as soon as they get here.” I could definitely see Greg Norton in left tonight.

Pitching
Young’s ERA isn’t terrible and he’s been playing out west against the likes of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Colorado Rockies, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, his WHIP is 1.38, which is good for the Braves. With a little clutch hitting tonight we’ll take this first game no problem. Padres have the worst offense in the league.
2008 National League Ranks – Padres
AVG R OBP SLG OPS SB
.230 108 .302 .341 .643 7
16th 15th* 16th 16th 16th 16th
*Giants are 16th w/o Bonds and 106 Runs.
Jurrjens, Hudson, and Reyes will have no problem dealing with the Padres offense. If we can produce some runs against Young and their number 4 and 5 starters (wednesday and thursday’s games), we should be golden and sweep the series.

Picks
1. 30,322
2. Mark Kotsay
3. Chris Young plunks a batter and ends up costing him at least one run.
I wouldn’t underestimate the Padres. Chris Young had a pretty good outing his last time at the Ted, and Khalil Greene is one of the most underrated shortstops in the league. The guy has great range, and a little pop in his bat too. I don’t care if we don’t have to face Peavy or Maddux; we didn’t have to face Santana or Perez in that Mets series, and looked what happened there, injuries, sickness or not. Pitching-wise, we should have beaten them, but we didn’t.

Especially...
Anyone see Renteria’s two errors last night? If there is ever such thing as a position player affected by what league they’re in, Renteria is a prime example. As much as I like the person he is, Renteria is definitely chipping away at age and wear.
Just realized I can contribute for the quest for 500 comments tonight – going to the game, afterall.

Too angry?
This is the best place to be too angry, cause someone will always say something to make me laugh.
Otherwise I sit in my room and listen to Killswitch Engage, and that doesn’t usually turn out well.

actually might be in the game thread. But that means I’ll need to fire up the laptop since I’m watching via MLB .tv.. Though we win when I don’t watch, so I may have to listen to Pete and Skip on XM.

Mark Kotsay has more homers than Andruw Jones, and more than twice as many hits.
He’s also making half as much money. That worked out pretty well so far.
by bigjoe on May 6, 2008 4:33 PM EDT 0 recs
a card board standee of Andruw at the plate would be more effective offensively than the real Andruw has been this year.

Moylan
Braves Live just said Moylan will need TJ surgery and its already scheduled.
by jug on May 6, 2008 6:40 PM EDT 0 recs
I had been under the impression
that is was pretty much going to happen the whole time. On the radio they kept saying in very rare situations guys with his problem worked through it without surgery, but that was highly unlikely. It sucks, thats for sure. We need to get Gonzalez back before everything falls apart.

maybe we can get some production out of the bottom of the lineup tonight. i’d like to see a couple runs from SK tonight.
by bigjoe on May 6, 2008 7:30 PM EDT 0 recs
Gant just said the reason the back end of the lineup is doing well...
...is b/c McCann is hitting well with RISP. Besides the fact that that doesn’t make any sense, isn’t McCann doing horribly with RISP?
