Braves @ Reds: One-Run Appocolypse

Atlanta Braves at Cincinnati Reds, May 31, 2008 3:55 PM EDT

It's rather maddening how this one-run crap continues. It is someone new every night who doesn't seem to be coming through in key situations and far too often it's more than one player. Our team batting average at home is the second best in baseball at .307, but our team batting average on the road is a measly .248 -- in the bottom third of all teams in baseball.

Next Game

Elizabeth City St. Vikings
@ Cincinnati Reds

Great American Ball Park

Jair Jurrjens vs Josh Fogg

Partly cloudy. Winds blowing out to left field at 10-20 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 80.

weird... and funny

I have no idea why the Braves are being referred to as the Elizabeth City St. Vikings, it’s some sort of bug in the system. Though on some level it may be appropriate.

Yesterday we were trying to figure out how to spot Jug at the game...

so, in addition to the hilarious video Beard just offered up in the last game’s thread (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcKeDPG_lMQ), here’s another way to possibly identify our friend Jug (he said he might throw beer and pizza) at today’s funfest:
Jug???

(all in fun, dude, hope you don’t mind :)

LOL

And I did actually wear a Santa suit to the game!

- Oh, Bobby. -

by sdp on May 31, 2008 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

True...

Im grilling out my damn self….

by clemsonfan on May 31, 2008 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Game's over...

This team doesn’t have the heart to overcome a three-run deficit.

- Oh, Bobby. -

by sdp on May 31, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply actions

I'm sorry...

what was that you said?! :)

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

haha

I concur…sometimes at the Ted I hang out in the concession area and watch the game so I can hear the radio announcers too.

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Well because I am in Cali I get the Dodgers vs. Mets game.

I can only listen on the radio today. I am pissed at Fox, I pay all of this money for the games through cable and I can’t watch shit on Saturdays.

by mvandonsel on May 31, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Join the club!!

Im in NC and I get the damn Mets game

by clemsonfan on May 31, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Todays (Braves) Fox TV broadcast isn't too bad

Leo Mazzone is a guest broadcaster. But I still came back to radio…don’t have a laptop.

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

holy CHRIST. I see Jair getting shellacked, and we came back to tie it? WITH A CLUTCH HOMER FROM TEX?? pinch me

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

i thought you said triple play at first, and i almost died. but he’s proven to be a semi-capable bat, so thats always a bright spot

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus they always say on the radio.

That Bobby thinks he’s the fastest on the team.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

CHIPPER TIES THE TEAM RECORD FOR HITS THROUGH MAY! HOORAY!

lets see if tex can hook shit up again

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

C'mon JJ

Just get out with the lead.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

gotta be the last inning, maybe the last batter, for JJ

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:51 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah.

Although if that was a semi-intentional walk, Bobby might be planning on finishing the inning with him. Might have been to give the pen more time.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

he tried flipping to kelly and uh, missed

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

grrrrrreat, the ring of fire. again

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:56 PM EDT reply actions

ROYCE RING REDEEMS HIMISELF!!!

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 5:57 PM EDT reply actions

ESPN

Tooo slow!!! what happened?

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

wow that took

like 2 minutes to show up on ESPN. Terrible.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions

WOW...

...just got home to see JJ cough up the lead, and then Ring make a HUGE pitch.

What was wrong with Jurrjens today?

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

This Chipper Jones guy

is pretty good. We should lock him up before anyone finds out.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:04 PM EDT reply actions

Crap.

If we don’t score soon, I know how this game will end.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:07 PM EDT reply actions

Also.

Yunel owes JJ a beer, because that flip was terrible.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

I think...

he owes me a beer for that flip.

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

THE RING OF FIRE??? color me stunned

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:17 PM EDT reply actions

JEFF FRANCOEUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

Has anyone...

heard any explanation of why Norton is starting instead of Josh Anderson?

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

he’s a VETERAN~!

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Norton has more power potential?

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope

But here he comes to ph

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 6:25 PM EDT reply actions

lets go JOSHY POO

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

Hmmm

Babykins may not be ready for the bigs…but damn he can run!

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yunel

is the goat of the day so far…

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:28 PM EDT reply actions

maybe?

All I know is Yunel is much, much better batting 2nd than 1st.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

actually.

KJ is better deeper in the lineup. So, Blanco is probably the way to go. or Kotsay.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d like Blanco up there. Takes alot of walks, and has speed to boot.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Huh...

...check out Yunel’s career splits:

Batting 1st (243 PAs): .326/.373/.439 – .812 OPS
Batting 2nd (220PAs): .312/.377/.432 – .809 OPS

Who knew?

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions

has he ever batted deeper in the order?

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s had 83 PAs in the 8th spot. Not much else.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

This year though.

Not so much. If he could recapture whatever it was he had last year, then leave him in.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions

very true…his OPS in the leadoff spot this year is .644

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Jeff Bennett...

hasn’t his arm fallen off yet?

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:36 PM EDT reply actions

if it hasn’t yet, Bobby will ride it until it does.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions

betcha 5 bucks Boyer pitches the 8th

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:40 PM EDT reply actions

I think...

we need two or three new guys in the bullpen…

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:44 PM EDT reply actions

well...

we go one of them already; wish he would pitch some..

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

be patient, grasshopper. fresh arms are A-COMIN! though they said on the radio bobby wants gonzo to get TWO WEEKS of rehab in…ugh, we need him NOW.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah...

they are the ones I am alluding to. I heard that on the radio also. I’m ready for a dose of SMOLTZ!

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

If...

you know what I’m talking about ;-)

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure I do...baseball...

Yeah, I have to think about baseball A LOT when I see him (wink, wink)...btw still waiting for your run-down of the Power Lunch…

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

what I was talking about, of course.

I am going to try to get my son to download my pictures/videos from his camera, which I used, maybe tonight and post something tomorrow.

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Shit.

Now Griffey is up sitting on 599 as the winning run.

by Perrinbar on May 31, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAH! time for raffy, hopefully

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

seems like votto has saved numerous throws this season. a DINGER would be nice…yuney could use one.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

Can the Braves..

win a 1-run road game? We’ll find out, right after this.

by sddbaker on May 31, 2008 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

raffy…calm the fuck down.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

beacuse he fucking lost his shit, apparently.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought Heap was going to lose it too… (ran to the TV)

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess

Heap was soooo mad that Bobby thought he had made the tag. On the replay you can see the runner was safe, but Heap was yelling so much, Bobby came out to back him up. Plus they said he was just plain pissed at the calls throughout the game.
Oh, was that a rhetorical question?

by Lizziebeth on May 31, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

i demand like 7 runs int he top of the tenth. IF WE FUCKING GET THERE.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

i really, REALLY need to get the fuck away from the braves for a week.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

i don’t even wanna listen to the rest of this, i’m that fucking pissed right now. maybe this whole HOLY TRINITY thing really isn’t worth much of a shit.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

AWESOME STUD CLOSER RAFAEL SORIANO can’t even get the fucking job done in his first save situation.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

who knew walking the leadoff runner in the bottom of the 9th when you’re up by one would be a bad idea…

by Smoltz's Beard on May 31, 2008 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

and here comes the current BLACK HOLE of the lineup. come on yuney, DO SOMETHING FUCKING PRODUCTIVE

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

come on KJ SEXY CAN I, LETS FUCKING GO

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:29 PM EDT reply actions

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

we REALLY need a fucking fred mcgriff-esque trade. this left field horse shit isn’t going to cut it for long. we need another one of those cocksuckers that can hit the ball out of the ballpark. maybe we could get manny ramirez if we offered a tex sized bundle. i know, i’m a dreamer. how about bay? or even nady?

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

i AM becoming less and less concerned with acosta, though.

by bigjoe on May 31, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Words fail

I swear they must be trying to do this…this is truly amazing.

by WienerDog on May 31, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

I was just thinking this afternoon

after the game, that tomorrow they should really, really try to lose by one run. So, of course, they wouldn’t. Except they would probably lose by about 10.

by sddbaker on Jun 1, 2008 2:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Just got home

My thoughts:

damnit.

...more to come, but likely won’t be anything different.
