Braves @ Reds: A Better Start to this Series would be Appreciated
Atlanta Braves at Cincinnati Reds, May 30, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
I've gotta tell you, I'm a bit excited to see all these young players that the Reds have this year; that starts with tonight's starting pitcher Edinson Volquez. Who would have thought that the Reds would have the best pitcher in the National League... and it's almost June. Volquez has been owning the league this year with a 1.31 ERA; this, after not putting up anything better than a 4.50 ERA in his three previous partial major league seasons.
He'll be facing Tom Glavine, who is beginning to look at little shaky... especially the third time through a lineup.
I'm also excited to see these young sluggers for Cincinnati. Joey Votto and Jay Bruce, not to mention the always entertaining Adam Dunn. It should be a fun series, and while I hope to see some offensive fireworks, I do hope that the Braves end up on the winning side of these games; if for no other reason than we need road confidence.

only good thing about this is that SK hasn’t played for a few days so it can go retroactively.
pretty sad when GREGOR has the highest OPS in the starting OF today.
I was looking at that myself. Francoeur is slipping into the dangerous realm of a sub-.700 OPS, which is certainly benching material. Shall we take a look at some of his split so far this year (OPS wise)?
LH – .717
RH – .713
Home – .749
Away – .676
Day – .886
Night – .614
Those do not bode well for tonights away night game against a RH.

So…now that Kotsay is on the DL, when do people start to get bitter about the trade?

that ought to be a top-ten
If Manny’s high-five assist got weeks of air time, i’m sure a beer-dump on an FYF botched HR rob would for SURE make the SportsCenter top ten.
haha, got that would be classic. seeing jug escorted out of the game by police officers would be the icing on the cake.

Jug, you must identify yourself
Maybe wear a shirt with huge black letters that say “JUG” so we know its you and not another FYF hater.
I'm a Reds fan
You throw that beer, jug!

Decent analysis of our team at the 1/3 mark by a nonbiased (despite the blog title) commentator.
Thanks for the link. I think that site sees what alot of us see…that we do have the pieces to win, and win often. The reason we all get so bitter after a loss, especially a 1-run loss, is because there have not been many times this season where we have been completely blown out. We should have a better record than we do, and it’s frustrating as hell to lose 2 games to the Brewers that in all honesty we should have won. Dave Bush? Jeff Suppan? Give me a break.
With that being said, when in fuck is Hampton supposed to attempt to pitch again?

PAUL BAKO Good to see Dusty refusing to get Griffey out of the 3-hole, and hit Votto 7th.
You guys can talk all you want about Corky last night....
but it makes me sick to see Norton out there again!!!!
Damn...
Im gonna have a buz before we ever get started!!
that makes 2 of us. molson now puts little choice questions on their bottles, so i’m entertained. also got a free t-shirt from the case. GOOD TIMES!!!
Must be nice...
This shit hole I live in, you cant hardly find anything worth drinking…moving to the Research Triangle in the next week though!!!
i’m actually surprised, Bobby usually gets his callups in there right away. Well, not counting Stockman.
No doubt!
Willy Korn is gonna be a monster too though!!!
my one buddy who’s a UF fan was telling me that spiller was about to transfer there. that would have CRIPPLED YOU.
seriously, only thing that can come CLOSE to baseball…college football. can’t get enough in the fall
I agree with that completly!! He did almost leave to be close to his kid but THANK GOD he didnt!! We should be very solid this year if the O-line comes around….all our Offensive studs are returning and we had a top 10 recruiting class!!
not a great start.
Although at least they made him work for it. They not being Yunel of course.
haha I like it!!
AND THANK GOD FOR VIDROS!!!
C'mon tommy.
You’ve seen how bad it is on the road, you have to pitch perfectly.
How about just making Volquez pitch enough he has to leave by the 6th.
That’s a small victory at least.
Their giving Frenchy hell on SS
he is wearing stirups tonight and he has them on backwards….
They cant believe...
Norton is playing over Anderson either
Or he could.
lose track of the strike zone. I’ll take that.
Hell if they pitch around him.
It’s yet more pitches. Although I suppose Dusty will leave Volquez in there to hit 200 pitches.
Considering we are playing on the road.
We are in trouble.
Runs or not..
were definantly getting his pitch count up!!
Wish I knew
why he started doing that. Not a good habit.
Ummmm...sure?
He has a deep voice. If you are watching the reds’ feed he was wrapped up in a towel earlier.
Just like to point out that
the fact we are starting Norton in our outfield is scary. Very scary.
Fans of the game...
anyone know what Jug looks like???
look for someone in right field. shame we can’t smell through the TV, cuz the odor of douchebag would just PENETRATE THE SCREEN.
just ribbin, jug
haha
only 2 choices…a guy with a blonde or a big guy
Well Tommy
knows how to work pitches. That’s for sure.
C'mon.
Let’s at least chase him after 6 or during the 6th.
The Phillies
are destroying the Marlins right now. Not sure how I want that series to go, not a sweep I suppose.
Chip will get a hit now.
With a guy on first. He always does.
On the other plus side.
Volquez is going to hit 100 pitches. right….now!
really.
for 2 runs? How about our hitters?
If he pulls him...
I don’t understand why he would have sent him out at all. That’s dumb, why let him give up another hit when he was already at 100 pitches?
oh sweet jesus.
We had better score some damn runs.
We need to get ahead
ASAP. Especially with Soriano back, we can actually hold a lead, hopefully.
I really dislike
In play out(s). seems to always be bad news.
Yeah.
Our bats are what are killing us, killing!!!
Awwww.
And here I thought Bobby would ride Ohman out. This better not go poorly.
Brantley, "How does Bobby Cox reach into his bag of tricks and pull out the name of Greg Norton to lead off that inning with a double"
Easy, he didn’t Norton started the game.
Moron.
"Anderson came into spring training the odd on favorite to start at center field for the Braves."
“Blanco beat him for the job.”
C'mon Chipper.
Gotta get a hit. No 0 for 5 for you.
Well.
Something tells me it might be time to call it a game.
Way to make up for the hitting!
Great. Seriously.
we better get a DP
to third. or it’s all over.
Well,
everyone has a bad night now and then, and I would say 0 for 5, with two Vidros and two balls practically through your legs qualifies as a bad night.
Welp
No beer on Frenchy’s head last night. Sorry to disappoint.
Guess we left the offense in Atlanta, as usual. But that Volquez kid is pretty good, so is Bruce.
Nothing really exceptional to report from the game. I was only heckled by cute girls, as one told me after the game “In your face,” and another group of pretty inebriated girls outside of the game mocked me with a “Go Braves!” then “who won?” and after I said the Reds, they replied “go back to Atlanta!” Indeed, I thought, I wish we would.
Another 1 run road loss, experienced first hand by yours truly. Great.
Here’s hoping today goes better. I’ll be there again! Not sure where my seats are this time.
Well...
...although a little part of me dies every time we lose a 1-run road game, of the three games this series that I expected to lose this was the one. It just sucks a big one that we wasted another good performance from Glavine. The bullpen pitched well, again, aside from Ring but Bobby should realize that Ring does not have it in him to pitch to more than one batter. Ohman was used already, and the Reds are an extreme LH hitting team, so I get it…but it’s pretty obious that Ring is gone if and when Gonzalez comes back healthy.
I’ve got faith in JJ and Hud, and as long as we win the series I’ll be happy.

I hear ya
Although I’m not sure why we shouldn’t expect to sweep the last place Reds. But Volquez is very good and we TOTALLY SUCK on the road. I didn’t tune in until the 7th and thought we might pull it out but after the second time through the order with no spark (except Yunel) I knew it was another destined one run loss. Sighhhhh…
Oh well, let’s get ‘em today.
Heading out for the game
Need victory cigar posters.
No NAHWAL, but I’m making predictions: Chipper 3-4 with 1 HR. Griffey hits 599. JJ goes 5.2 for the W.
I’ll pour beer on somebody if I can…Or maybe just throw a slice of pizza.
Dammit...
...trying to embed the stupid video but I can’t get it to work. Just click the link and laugh.

I had a picture I was trying to upload (and having trouble), too, but that’s much more funny…it’s Jug!!
