Jordan Shafer

On the radio broadcast today, the announcers started discussing Jordan Shafer, and they mentioned that he's eligible to start playing again on May 30, which is tomorrow. I'm wondering, with Matty on the DL, Kotsay hurting, and Infante playing fairly regularly as the only other guy who can play outfield, if and when we might see Shafer get the call to the bigs?

I'm thinking he'll do at least a week or two in Richmond to get back in shape, then maybe he'll be ready to get called up. Of course, by then, Kotsay will likely be feeling better, and we may not have a need or a spot for Jordan. Anyone else have any thoughts?

if he gets recalled before anderson, jones, or even the walking corpse of joe borchard, i’ll put my head through a window. not only is the guy NOT READY, i don’t think he’s played a game all season and is likely ICE COLD.

Is this really a topic?

He’s not going to Richmond to get back in shape—he’s been in Orlando at extended spring training staying in shape since his suspension. He’s going to pick it back up at AA Mississippi and I doubt he’ll see anything past AA this year. He had ELEVEN at-bats at the time of his suspension and by now, most minor league seasons are a third of the way completed. He’s got a lot of catching up to do and I’d be shocked if he even got a September call-up.

plus, theres the whole character thing. i’m sure a lot of the guys would be pissed off if they saw that a guy that just got done serving a steroids suspension gets rewarded with a call to the majors, top prospect or not.

agreed

as much as i would love to see, it would be big news for my dynasty fantasy league, theres absolutely no way jordan gets called up before july at the very earliest, the better estimation is he’ll be a september callup, unless he crushes the ball AND someone gets hurt.

But as far as im concerned Anderson is the first to get called up, i think Borchard and Jones are never gonna be more than bench players or, more likely, good AAA players. I know Jones has a ton of skill, he is a five tool player, he doesnt do anything well enough to be an everyday player ( and yes i realize this analysis is less than groundbreaking)

thats my two cents

It is SCHAFER

learn how to spell his name and your made up story might be a story. He has been living at home and doing extended spring training and will be going to Miss for the rest of the year unless he just tears it up. They will not be pushing him to the Majors this year.

TMAC is right

Jordan has been staying in Winter Haven and playing in extended games. From what I have seen and heard he didnt miss a stride down there, but that is hitting off of guys who are making rusty rehab starts or young guys that are getting their 1st taste of pro ball. There is no way that Jordan will be up until september. Anderson, Jones , Borchard, all of these guys will definately get the chance to prove themselves 1st. Jordan has to prove he can bounce back and play with the pressures that are going to come with people being harsh on him and things like that. I think he will stay right on track and probably win a spot next spring.
