Is it just me?

I'm just wondering maybe it's just me, but I think we have the worst beat writers in the Majors. DOB has begun to completely disappoint. And don't get me started on Mark Bowman - he's far worse than DOB could ever think about being. Or am I just a tad cranky?

Go take a look at Bowman's latest "Mail Bag" on braves.com. I addressed one of those questions over at rain-delay.

I haven't really read much of Bowman's stuff

But DOB drives me fucking nuts. The guy spends half his blogs talking about music that I don’t give a shit about and throwing out goofy, arbitrary stats pointing obvious things about how a guy is slumping or on fire…

Which is guess would be OK if it was his own personal blog, but he writes for the fucking AJC.

Honestly?

I like DOB. He may write for the AJC, but its a blog not an article. The music part of his BLOG entries is what makes it personal to DOB. Bowman’s not terrible either, its very readable. While neither of them are gonna win any awards anytime soon, they’re far from terrible.

DOB

Bowman I could do without. DOB’s music thing is a little annoying, but I always skip over it.

Mailbags.

I hate it when writer’s post “mailbags” at are designed only to validate his desire to write about anything he already wanted to write about and I feel that’s what Bowman does. Rarely do I walk away from them having learned anything new.

Please check out my blog at http://thefulldeck.blogspot.com/ , now redesigned and recommited!

I don't really read the DOB blogs...

... I just use his blog to track the insider Braves news he posts.

Same here.

I read his clubhouse info, but nothing else. No other comments, and rarely the actual blog.

He has answered a couple of my questions before, so I can’t complain too much.

Blogs

IMO, blogs are fine for regular people who want to express opinions, but I have issues with legitimate news sources trying to pass a blog off as respectable, legit journalism. I like the info that DOB puts in his blogs, but come on, write a real column! That’s your job! If you work for a newspaper, you shouldn’t be writing the same thing that any of us can write on our own. But, I know news-blogging is becoming more and more common, and probably won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. I just can’t take what DOB writes as respectfully as a real columnist.
