Backs @ Braves: Game 3
Arizona Diamondbacks at Atlanta Braves, May 25, 2008 1:35 PM EDT
Very, very, very nice win last night. I was remarking (to myself probably) a week or so ago that Jeff Francoeur has not had a "walk-off moment" in quite some time. I honestly can't remember him having one at all this year, so it was really great to see him come through with a walk-off homerun in yesterday's game. It was also good for us to beat another top pitcher like Randy Johnson (okay, maybe he's not quite a top pitcher anymore, but he certainly looked like one against the Braves yesterday). That game also gives us confidence that we can come back in close games -- something we've had a problem with this year.
Yunel Escobar plays with a lot of emotion, and it came through extra intense in yesterday's game, especially when he was called out for interference late in the game. It occurred to me that his emotions might be way out of whack with his best friend Brayan Pena being designated for assignment two days ago, combined with having to sit out a couple of games because of the injury caused by Ryan Church's slide(s).
Old-man Glavine will try to match what Randy Johnson did on the mound yesterday, but with hopefully a better outcome than Johnson had.
Remember, no NAHWAL today.

Goin' to the game...
Everybody here have fun today…I’ll be at the game sitting behind MattE, encouraging him to not be afraid of the wall; go ahead and jump. Hopefully nothing will make it that far and those comments will not be needed!
Go Bravos!
May 13, 2006...
... was Francoeur’s last walk-off homer. He did have a couple of walk-off hits last year.
- Oh, Bobby. -
Escobar is hilarious when he's pissed...
... I don’t know how to explain it, but his body language and movements are hilarious when he’s pissed.
- Oh, Bobby. -
And you know
The Spanish curse-words must be flying off his tongue. I got a chuckle out of him yesterday too.
Today's game
I doubt I’m going to be able to watch, so I’ll follow along via GameCast for most of it. But, I’m going to need someone to fill in for the victory cigar for when we win. Any volunteers that I can count on not to post early (Ahem, bigjoe…)?

something about...
tom glavine and the first inning
i know...
and this microscopic strike zone aint helping matters
Kotsay
likes the first pitch…but I question swinging at that first pitch…after 3-2 to Glavine and 5 pitch bases loaded walk to Yunel. Oh well…new ballgame and a future HoFer on the mound.
for what its worth, i’m down to my last half glass of beer and not even close to being drunk. not good times at all.
big joe can’t drink liquor. when big joe drinks liquor…BAD THINGS HAPPEN. details to follow if prodded.
Question
did Yunell play in to many games to be up for Rookie of the Year this year??
Yeah...
... last year was his rookie season. He finished 6th in Rookie of the Year voting.
- Oh, Bobby. -
Ive noticed...
you guys ripping Corky and his bat, God (or should I say Pujols?) but both Campilo starts have been by Corky….think maybe its pairing thing Bobby has goin on??
somehow...
2 outs and no one on, turns into a grand slam… way to fuck it up glavine.
seems like....
owings has figured out the strike zone
Not to mention the facts that
1. Eric Byrnes almost fell down swinging at that ball
2. It bounced off the top of the fence
im more of the thinking...
that owings is gonna settle down with a lead and pitch a couple more scoreless innings
Smoltz in mississippi
1.0 innings/1hit/0BB/0Ks/0R- 12 pitches
he said his shoulder felt sore this morning, but bobby seems to think its okay
another lineout for mac
stroked the ball 3 times this game and only has one hit to show for it
geez...
every inning seems like the braves get set down 1-2-3, and then have to struggle to get through the next half
such a positive start to the inning...
...the cruz just blew away norton and escobar
Were a different team...
without Chipper in the lineup….
Chipper...
I didn’t him on the bench…maybe down getting loose in the cages for a PH opportunity in the 8th or 9th if we can get something going
Aint no middle with him
He either blows them away or gives up 3 runs. No middle ground.
well we apparently
picked the wrong day to face him
i am surprised
Cruz is emotional and usually bites it when he allows baserunners. Thus, he typically is only effected when gets all the outs at the plate, or at minimum inherits one runner. Here he inherited one and allowed one and still got it done.
the way this game is going..
JJ better bring his A game tomorrow to avoid losing 3 of 4 at home
If I can offer you some hope
I don’t think you have to worry about Brynes hitting a grandslam two games in a row.
way to go ohman
yep heres to getting the split tomorrow
I feel your pain
The D-Backs’ scores in the last 5 games: 2, 1, 0, 11, 1, 8.
Hello, Choppers.
Hopefully I won’t be run out of town on a rail for showing up this late, with the Dbacks having a 5 run lead. :-\ But I honestly just got home. How you folks doing?
And will you hate me less since I’ve brought more beer?
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
11 walks today
tight strike zone or not, thats not gonna get it done most days
Signing off
Nice finally getting to participate rather then reading later….should be back on again tomorrrow!!!
SORRY
I meant to post that at AZSnakepit. I wasn’t rubbing it in, sorry.
I was gonna say....
clear violation of SnakePit rules on foreign posting!!
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Clearly
I am a douche. By mistake but still, I’m a douche.
'tis true
The Pit allows douches and Redskins fans, but I repeat myself. :)
