OPEN THREAD (Make Shift) Mets at Braves, Game 1

Just because there are no points on the line, we office monkeys need a place to complain about GIDPs, LOBs, FYFKs, and whether or not we'll see Chris Resop or not.

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves, at Turner Field, and I'm writing nonsense right now to hopefully meet the character count so that I can actually post this on the first try when I hit "publish" ...

And I failed.  So the pitchers will be John Maine from Fredericksburg, Virginia, versus the Three-Hundred game winning, future Hall of Fame left-handed pitcher, Tom Glavine, from somewhere up in Connecticut.

Hey.

So I’m a fan of Reyes getting himself out, lets see that one keep up!

The Weather

Windy, overcast, somewhere in the 70s, topping out high 70s to low 80s. Heard that there could be scattered T-storms today, and looking outside, it could be.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

WTF

Just blinked, and the GameCast showed a 1 tick for the Mets.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Optimism

First-inning runs can be overcome.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:13 PM EDT reply actions

So you know...

...Castillo averages 1 home run every 261 PAs.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 20, 2008 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

But the homers do come, sparsely as they do. I went to a Braves/Mets game in 2006, and Lo Duca homered, and the Mets won 1-0.

Lo Duca hit 5 homers on the entire year.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I know. We’re off to a bad start. It’s frustrating giving up dingers to guys who don’t hit dingers with any regularity. Like Paul Lo Duca.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

And yes.

In case you were wondering, Glavine’s worst inning is the first. 369 runs vs 275 in the next closest, the 4th.

by Perrinbar on May 20, 2008 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

Come on Tommy.

Nibbling isn’t working apparently.

by Perrinbar on May 20, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

According to my ESPN GameCast

Glavine isn’t just pitching low and away, but low and into the dugout.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

I don't like this one bit.

I have a feeling this is not going well.

by Perrinbar on May 20, 2008 1:20 PM EDT reply actions

Hahah

I love ESPN GameCast. “Line Out” is depicted by a mile-high pop out.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

wtf?

Alou just disappeared from my MLB Gameday with no explanation of what happened.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 20, 2008 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

He turned into powder

and the wind blew him away. That’s what you get for playing such an old man.

by Perrinbar on May 20, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder if you can still smell the urine on his powder.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 20, 2008 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Ha

I was going to refrain from the urine jokes.

They are pretty easy fodder.

My friends and I...

...refer to him as “Pisshands.”

Alou

Lined out three miles into the sky, according to ESPN gamecast.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Very cool.

MLB Gameday uploads instant video of important plays. They’ve already got Castillo’s HR on there.

that’s ok..Tex will fix it

by A49erFan77 on May 20, 2008 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Another thing I love about ESPN GameCast

When a pivotal hit occurs, there is this huge delay between when it says “incoming pitch has been hit” and the result, which usually occurs after the run is tallied on.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 20, 2008 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Very nice.

That was unexpected from Tex.

Great AB

For Heap. I love it when he does this.

looks like he just missed his pitch though

by A49erFan77 on May 20, 2008 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Now Brian Schneider

I’d hate for Tommy to give one up to him.

MLB Gameday

is ahead of the radio on my computer…so I sort of know what Skip is about to say. Unless Gameday is screwed up, which it sometime is.

by sddbaker on May 20, 2008 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

listen online?

Is there a way to listen online to games for free?

by A49erFan77 on May 20, 2008 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah.

I’m cheap/a thief so…

by Perrinbar on May 20, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions
