A's @ Braves: Rubber Game
Oakland Athletics at Atlanta Braves, May 18, 2008 1:35 PM EDT
Well, at least we made it another one-run loss last night... that's just extra salt in the wound. Let's see how long Jo-Jo can last against the A's today. Apparently, Hudson woke up the A's bats... that's not a good thing.

WTF
Is Francoeur thinking?? He needs to use some of that old Parkview DEATH ROW defense to tackle the snot out of a catcher, and hope to jar the ball lose on that bonehead nonsense baserunning.

I agree...
but really what could have Frenchy done? He could of crushed the catcher, but that could’ve resulted in an injury to either player. I have always thought that crashing into the catcher is overrated and I think some guys go out of their way for contact. Wasn’t that in 2005 when Estrada got smashed on for no reason (which opened the door for McCann)?

I know
There really wasn’t much choice, unless he decided to not to do what Snitker instructed. Afterall, he knows his body more than anyone else, and he wasn’t at the right angle to see where the ball was landing.

fundamentals
two runners thrown out at the plate, ANOTHER double play by teixeira, blanco caught in the rundown, missed sac bunt opportunity by jo jo, had he gotten the bunt down francoeur wouldve scored easily on escobars hit. It seems like the braves are begging the A’s to tie it

Great game...
...Jo-Jo is slowly proving himself to me, getting back in my good graces. Bullpen looks great, and is only going to get stronger. McCann is silly. Francoeur not so much. Even Tex had an XBH.
But the MVP of the game had to been Boog and Joe. I was laughing my ass off the entire game.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 18, 2008 4:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Francoeur...
...is what I would think is the biggest concern. He looks like 2006 Francoeur who is hacking away at everything. The difference is that in 2006, he actually connected every once in a while, even if his average isn’t reflecting on it. The 2007 Francoeur was a threat at every PA; it’s like he adjusted to go the other way, and now that that’s out of the bag, he’s out of ideas.
But I agree with Boog and Joe. That was some amusing stuff, and eventually one of these days, Boog is going to don the black eye mask.

Haha…that was funny stuff. I was also laughing when they were so disappointed in their AFLAC trivia answers, and their Bark at the Park day annecdotes. It certainly was a “doggone” good win.

The best part
Except for the win of course, was near the end when they showed the shot of the two weenie dogs wearing Braves T’s. Classic.
One of the best games of the year IMO.

Caught the end on XM
Always a little dicey with Acosta IMO (Skip made a good point about how he’s always pitching behind in the count), but I’ll take the two of three as stated above. Man, if Huddy had only been on his game Saturdau, coulda been a sweep.
Now to root for the Yanks tonight (as much as I don’t want to)...

Nice win
Reyes has actually outlived my expectations. Truth is, I didn’t expect James to do quite as bad as he has but I really didn’t expect to see so many quality starts from Reyes either.
Nice win yesterday and nice weather to see it in. I like getting series wins and it makes me feel a little better about hosting the Mets starting tomorrow with some positive momentum going our way.
Here’s a raised eyebrow at seeing Campillo start. I like the move but I hope he can give us five good ones. Our bullpen has been the strongest weapon in our arsenal lately but I would still like to see a good start from Jorge.
Let’s beat the Metros!
