A's @ Braves: Hudson vs. his old team
Oakland Athletics at Atlanta Braves, May 17, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
That was a pretty impressive one-run game last night, excuse me, one-run WIN! I was at the game -- bundled up as best I could be -- and I must say it was kind of a boring game until the sixth. It's amazing how much your own team's offense can make a game more exciting.
I loved seeing Kotsay get the game winning hit against his former team (it would have been sweeter had it been against Devine). Hopefully Hudson can have the same kind of success against his former team tonight.
Interestingly, the biggest applause of the night seemed to be for Tom Glavine when he pinch hit. It's nice to see that the masses still have such love for old Tom.

We're gonna win!
I was at last night’s game too. It was funny, I was sitting near Mr. Overzealous Foul Ball Catcher Guy who was muttering to himself very loudly throughout the entire game, and screaming at players from the upper deck. And immediately after seeing Kotsay’s base hit, he was out the door like nobody else’s business. Hopefully tonight won’t be as chilly and/or windy as last night was.

2. Chipper Jones
3. Tim Hudson goes seven innings.
WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE.
If we win tonight, someone else please do the honors:

Ditto
Yes we’re gonna win
and yes i LOVE sitting next to ol’ muttering Mr Overzealous Foul Ball Cather Guy (sounds like a Budweiser “Real American Heroes” commercial).
and yes…
WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE. Especially when the damn Mets and their ugly fans decide to show up next week. We’ve go to make a statement against the NL East.

Pickys...and Gondee -or anybody- know...
what time the YMCA lot starts parking cars for the game?
I was thinking of going early to get pics, but MARTA doesn’t run the shuttle until 1.5 hours before the game and gates open 2.5 before game time.
Any tips?

Depends on the YMCA – I’m assum you’re talking about the one on Pryor St., but if there’s a shuttle involved, I can be mistaken. I can’t answer for their hours, but I can tell you where I park. There’s a church parking lot on Abernathy/Cooper that is only $5.00 to park, and is a direct beeline to the Ted. About 4 blocks until you get to the underpass. They start their parking pretty early, and they’re monitored by church volunteers. I’ve seen people leave their tailgate grills and chairs out in the open during the game. The way I see it, it takes a pretty desperate/rotten person to be stealing from a church…

Wow
Thanks!! I was about to concede to MARTA ‘cause my friend bailed on going with me. I’m a cheapskate, so the Y and the Silver lots seemed my best options, but not so if walking that far by myself (at 5’5” and 102 lbs.). I think I’ve seen that church.
Thanks again RH!

Let me tell you...
I used to work at my church, and you would be amazed at the stories I could tell you about the rotten/desperate people out there. But if it’s monitored, sounds good.

Just caught an Andruw
Jones at bat on the fox broadcast – I have to say, i was expecting him to look fatter! He seemed about as beefy as he’s been the last few years. Looked terrible, waving at a fast ball for the K. Nice shades, no new tattoos apparent.

...which one of are young guys is going to be a Brave for life? What player would want to stick around, and would the team want?
I say Heap. Thoughts?
by VegasAces on May 17, 2008 7:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
with the 6 year deal and the local ties, i can see heap as the “franchise player”. frenchy…the lack of a deal makes me think they’ll let him explore a little bit. i also think we resign huddy, and there is NO FUCKING WAY chipper leaves town, even for a season.

heap definately, maybe frenchy if he decides to sign a lesser deal

McCann. No question there. He is the quiet hero of the team, who brings consistency and talent to every game. When all seemed lost in yesterday’s win, it was McCann who kept getting hits and doing things right. I once made an observation that even in the worst of Braves losses, McCann always had some sort of production, and in the really bad losses were the ones where McCann had a bad day, or wasn’t even in the game.
Francoeur, I can see somewhere else in the distant future. Didn’t he turn down an undisclosed contract offer this past off-season? I’d imagine it was somewhere around McCann money, if not a little more/around the same. The way he streaks through the season, I wonder if that was a wise decision or not.
Everyone else, unfortunately is up for grabs IMO. Excluding the veterans.

Back from the game.
Talk about a heartbreaker. Johnson’s huge triple in the bottom of the 9th, and to ironically, lose by one-run. Where in the hell did all the Braves patience go? I know Rich Harden is like their best hurlers, but I lost track of how many strikeouts he had. Francoeur was downright disgusting, the way he was swinging at absolutely everything. It’s like going to take a test without studying the least bit – makes me wonder if anyone bothered to watch some video or read the scouting on Harden prior to the game. We made yet another guy look like the second coming of Nolan Ryan or something.
I’m not really PO’d on this loss, but I was disheartened by the lack of patience by the Braves today. This was not the day we needed Hudson to have as bad of an outing as he did.
I don’t even have any interesting stories from the game itself either. The only thing that got any cheering was when some cheesehead threw a paper airplane from the top of the upper deck, and it sailed down right next to Ryan Sweeney in the on-deck circle at one point. I stayed through the miserable end, because I feel that Huston Street is a vulnerable closer, and he proved it again tonight, but held on just enough. During that brief rally, I forgot about all the strikeouts, but it was truly poetic to see it end on a strikeout. My last thought while leaving the park was that “if White Wilson Betemit were the black (Dominican) Wilson Betemit, this would’ve been the game-tying home run.”
