Minor League Recaps: 5/16
Richmond 4, Indianapolis 5
- S. Thorman - 3-4 2B, HR(3), 2 RBI, K
- B. Canizares - 1-4 2B, RBI, K
- D. Hernandez - 2-4
Indianapolis hands Richmond their second straight 1 run loss. Scott Thorman is continuing his hot hitting as of May. He is hitting .420 for the month with 10 XBH (all 3 homers have been in May) and an OPS of over 1.100. That is crazy go nuts. His SLG in April was .420 just to show how markedly improved he has been. Hernandez bounced back after going into a mini slump and seeing his average dip below .350.
Mississippi 12, Chattanooga 1
- R. Gorecki - 4-5 2 2B, HR(2), 5 RBI
- J. Perry - 1-5 3B, 2 K
- G. Creek - 3-5 2B, 2 RBI, K
- J. Parr - 6IP 6H 1R 0BB 9K
If Jason Perry stabilized this lineup then Reid Gorecki might have made it formidable. Granted it has only been a couple of games, but they have been spectacular. Mississippi is actually 9-7 on the month and with Hanson in the rotation and two solid veterans in the middle of the order this team is actually serviceable. Parr put up one of his flash of talent games where he teases us just a bit. He'll go out and walk 5 and strike out two next game. But hey, I take what i get. As a side note, Dustin Evans went on the DL today. He needed to be put somewhere.
Wilmington 2, Myrtle Beach 5
- B. Hicks - 1-4 HR(7), K
- C. Rodriguez - 1-3 HR(2), 2 RBI, K
- C. Vines - 6IP 4H 0R 1BB 9K
Remember a couple weeks ago when I said Chris Vines deserved a shot at the rotation? Here he is! Actually this was his second start. But just to point out his ERA is currently 0.66. Yeah thats right. Read it again just to make sure. He has allowed 2 ER in 27 innings this season. He has 30K vs. 5 BB. I think at this point if I could see any farmhand pitch it would be Vines just so I could get a read on him. I wonder how long before he gets bumped up.
Hickory 3, Rome 2
- J. Heyward - 1-4 2B
- C. Johnson - 2-4 2B
- C. Rodgers - 7IP 5H 2R 0BB 7K
Rodgers pitched a solid game here but this offense is really having some issues so far. They scored 2 in the first but didn't get anything else for the rest of the game. I would really like to see Heyward, Freeman and Gorkys all on the same team at some point this season, but I just don't know if that is going to happen.

From Rome
Cody Johnson hit a huge double late in the game that had the potential to turn the game around, but Gilmore got out the next at bat, so rally over. Johnson’s hit was his 10th double, and it was a HARD hit line drive the other way – a very impressive hit.
In other Rome news, Cole Rohrbaugh was at the game getting high fives and handshakes in the dugout. He’s on the roster, so that solves one mystery – for now. And Steve Shults has joined the roster. He looks like a cross between Jordan Schafer and Greg Creek, and he’s HUGE – massive arms. Can’t wait to see what he can do. He worked out at 1st last night alongside Freeman, and he said he plays 1st, 3rd, and outfield. I know Lundahl moved up to Mississippi from Myrtle Beach, and Coe left the clubhouse last night with packed bags, but I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. Maybe he was just cleaning house, or maybe he’s on his way up. Who knows….we’ll see. I’ll be back at the game Sunday, so maybe I can snoop around and find out more if nothing is announced by then.
And from last night:

Great Post
I absolutely love these updates! Keep up the great work. I’m going to try to make it to Rohrbough’s first start but I’ve already seen him pitch before(he was awesome in that game 11 K’s) and I am going to make it to Teheran’s first start.

Yeah I would love to see some of these guys pitch. it looks like I’m going to be moving pretty far soon though so I’m actually going to be out of Braves Country for the first timein my life. I will be close to Richmond though…
