Would you want him?

I apologize if this has been commented on already, however I had not seen anything yet on here. I was trolling mlb trade rumors and read where Mark Bowman believes the Braves could bring Maddux back for another tour. So the question is would you want him in the rotation? He has been pitching pretty well, he is 3-3 with a 3.60 era. HIs WHIP is 1.16, same as Peavey's, and opponents are hitting .280 which is better than the rest of their starters. Granted Peavey will continue to get better as the year goes on, but Maddux has the comfort of the West, a huge ballpark to pitch in but has a crappy offense behind him. Interested in everyones thoughts on if you would like to see him back with the Braves. Also, Bowman mentioned it would not take much to get him in terms of talent, though Maddux may have a no trade clause, not sure.

If the price is right

I would love to see Maddux back in a Braves uniform, even for just this year, but I doubt he would be a long-term solution. With the rotation chaos that’s been going on this year, it would be great to have another solid guy who can eat innings and pitch well. We certainly need the help. He’s not the Maddux of the old days, but he’s still a solid starter. I would only get him if the price is right, however, and it looks like San Diego might be willing to let him go for relatively cheap. I wonder if there’s another guy out there that would give us as much talent for the price?

I want to see the Braves address the starter situation over the next offseason, however. Glavine will likely retire, Smoltz may be in the pen if not retired himself, and Chuckie and Bennet or Carlyle are not long-term solutions. We’ll have Huddy, Jair, and maybe Reyes, but I’m ready to grab another really good, Cy Young caliber pitcher.

Heck yeah...

and I don’t think the Braves are the only team interested. I think there would only be a limited number of teams he would waive his no-trade clause for, however. Atlanta might be one of them.

I’d rather have Maddux than Glavine at this stage.

Step into it, Alice!

Hey, we’ve got Cy Young winners over here.

I mean really, doesn’t this alone make it worth it, whatever the cost?

Couldn't be any worse...

than anyone else Bobby has put in the number 5 hole. Longevity is the only issue and I guess you could justify it to buy time for the remainder of the year and hopefully either find a hidden gem in the farm or wait until there’s some room in the budget to buy a FA.

The Price.

Considering the last time he was traded and his recent performance, I’d say he’d cost us a Martin Prado or a Diory Hernandez. The Pads are going nowhere fast and they’ll look to sell off their veteran pieces soon. If Maddux is up for it, he’ll be a Brave this year and he could certainly help us. They’ve been reluctant to rush Morton (they wanted him to get 20 starts or so in AAA) so he’d be an excellent stopgap. I’m all for it.

I don't see how we could lose...

with either of your options—we are overloaded with mid-minors infielders and any pitching help would be a blessing at this point. Not sure about Morton, but I don’t want to see him (or any other good pitching prosect) rushed into service. I’m not sure either of your options would interest the Padres. Now, Lillibridge on the other hand might.
