Clone Chipper
Good one gondeee…that would be our only hope.
So good of McCann to make it another one run loss last night. This is really amazing. If we can’t win on the road we might as well compile some interesting stats.
1- 43,300
2- Chipper. I’m not picking ANYBODY else anytime soon.
3- The Braves give up an early lead only to come up one run short of tying the game. I have such an imagination.
First Haiku Ever
I’m not much of a poet but here goes:
One run losses mount
road games always annoy me
lousy XM sounds
Okay time for something I’m more familiar with:
1. 42,111
2. Chipper (it’s like he’s trying to put the team on his back, and they refuse to get on)
3. Glavine plays The Stopper just like the old days, giving up just 2 runs in 6+ innings. We win by one.
Picks
1. 43,211
2. Glavine
3. Glavine gets a win, Chipper goes yard, and Matty comes off the bench for a hit.
Picks
1. 40890
2. Brian McCann
3. Glavine gets knocked around early but settles in for a nice 6 inning 3 ER performance.
Kelly can’t lead off
Chipper trying to do it all
Bobby’s lost his touch
NAHWAL
1. 40,703
2. Yunel
3. Glavine outduels Myers and picks up the win (finally)
Frenchy at the plate
Myers won’t throw him a strike
Surprise, Jeff strikes out
picks
1. 40,857
2. Kotsay (i just cant keep picking chipper)
3. Glavine finally wins one
Rafi, Hampton, John,
Moylan, Gonzalez, and Tex
Injuries are gay
Haikus like mine would apply to 100% of the games, though.

1. 32,001
2. Chipper
3. Kotsay gets an RBI to provide what becomes the winning run.
Our Braves pound those Phils
with a Glavine like of yore,
holding them to one.
We're going to win.
1. 40,002
2. Chipper Jones
3. Braves strike first, lose the lead, Glavine doesn’t get the win, but we do.

Philly has no chance
1. 43,782
2. Frenchy
3. Manny Acosta earns a save

This is sort of how I felt after the game yesterday, like we just missed it. Little things, little things. Bunts, flyballs and DPs. These are absolutely killing us. But, what is really killing us, is we need to be 5 runs up on somebody so the little things don’t matter. So here’s to not being a fail dog tonight.
Next Two Starters...
...well, we really should have won last night. Plain and simple. But since we didn’t that means we need to win tonight even more. Here’s Myers’ stats against the ATL for his career:
4-6, 4 SV, 114.2 IP, 4.16 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.66 K/BB, 16 HR
I thought we would stand a better chance against him than Hamels, but after looking at the stats Hamels hasn’t been as lights out against us as I once thought:
3-2, 38.2 IP, 4.42 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 4.20 K/BB, 8 HR
Hamels has average a little over 6 IP per start against us, so if we can get to their bullpen early tonight it might give us an advantadge tomorrow night if/when Hamels can’t pitch deep into the game.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 14, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions
After examing the number more closely, the reason why I remember Hamels owning us is because last year he did. 2006 was quite the opposite:
2006 – 0-2, 11.1 IP, 6.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 6.00 K/BB, 3 HR (5.55 IP per start)
2007 – 3-0, 27.1 IP, 3.62 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3.42 K/BB, 5 HR (6.78 IP per start)

We're going to win.
We’re not supposed to beat these two guys, just like we’re never supposed to beat Johan Santana and the Mets, but beat them anyway.
As for Hamels, he’s often vulnerable early on – but 1st inning runs don’t mean anything if you can’t hold onto the leads. Remember his debut against the Braves? Got dinged up early, but then settled down and struck out like 10 Braves, and they showed a bunch of losers in the stands doing a pick-axe motion with every K, because his name is Cole.. get it, Coal?? We also dinged him up in a game last year, with 4 1st inning runs, but then Chuck James decided to gift wrap them right back in the bottom of the frame, before Hamels settled down and owned us.
I am optimistic about the next two games. The Braves respond to aces better than any other team out there.

I remember that game. I was so happy with those 1st innings run, and just fucking irate when Chuck coughed the lead up right away. If I recall correctly, I think they both threw 1-hitters for like the 5 innings.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 14, 2008 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions
yup
that was it. Those a-holes were putting up K signs in the back with each one. I remember the final strikeout, whoever douchebag was announcing, didnt say anythign about the look or swing, but starts yelling “HANG ANOTHER K!!!!!”
Chuck and Suck was awfully good at doing that.
Speaking of Cole Hamels
This picture always makes me laugh.

HAIKU DEFINITION
- haiku generally express thoughts, ideas, and subjects relating to the everyday experience. While there is no “official” rule or stanza set, generally the adopted version begins with a 5 syllable line, then 7 syllables, concluding with another 5 syllables. Rhyming tends to be absent while writing these poems.
Hahaha
I didn’t want to be the one to tell people that they weren’t following the 5-7-5 rule. Thanks!
one more time ... for sting!! a sports blog written by two opinionated males
as you said..
there is no “official” rule, but generally should be a total of seventeen syllables or less
also, I didn’t really notice that mine rhymed until after I posted it…(you know the old saying—I’m a poet and didn’t know it; I make a rhyme everytime…”
I was directing that at traphicg, but you too! Go build your walls around some other impressionable youth, man…

Nothing wrong...
...with being an English major.

Notice
I said “wannabe”. I wanted to major in English or journalism and write about sports someday. But at the time there wasn’t much future in that as a woman, so I ended up switching to accounting. Which is what I am doing now…but sort of writing about sports sometimes….
Smart...
I have a BA in journalism and never got anywhere with it, natch (tv/video production/post-production).
I just got an AS in accounting (7 years after the BA).
Writing about sports
AND getting paid, now that’s the American Dream. I would love to be a sports journalist, but I’d get accused of taking stances just for defiance too often. I’m like the 12th juror in 12 Angry Men – no such thing as a quick important decision.

...5-0 lead, I’ve had a couple beers and need to leave for softball. You think you guys can hold down the fort without letting them cough up 6 runs?
Maybe after last nights game
The Braves said Fuck This and decided to get angry. And they are going to hit like this for the rest of the season!
“this is game 6 on the road trip, and the braves have now grounded into motherfucking TWELVE of them”
