Minor League Recaps: 5/13

Richmond 7, Indianapolis 1

  • B. Jones - 4-5 2 2B, HR(2), 2 RBI, K

  • B. Canizres - 2-4 2B, HR(5), 2 RBI, BB

  • S. Thorman - 2-5 2B, HR(2), RBI, K
  • C. Morton - 7IP 5H 1R 2BB 7K

You know right after I was saying that Jones hadn't shown any power this season he goes out and has a game like this. Maybe he is finally healthy. Thorman continues his torrid pace in May and is back to playing a little 3rd along with first. Charlie Morton continues to impress me, but like i said in the game thread, his start tonight means he won't start in for Atl on Friday.

Montgomery 1, Mississippi 2

  • T. Hanson - 6.1IP 5H 1R 4BB 7K
  • J. Perry - 1-4 2B, K
  • K. Kaaihue - 1-3 RBI, BB

Well Tommy Hanson's debut in AA was successful. Obviously he wasn't as dominant as he was at MB but he showed he doesn't fear AA hitters and his K rate stayed up and he still hasn't given up a homer. I'm crossing my fingers on that ground ball ratio. Kaaihue and Thorman must be having some kind of return from obscurity contest.

Myrtle Beach 6, Potomac 1 (Game 1)

  • W. Cabrera - 2-3 RBI
  • C. Rodriguez - 2-3 2B, 2 RBI
  • D. Heath - 7IP 1H 1R 4BB 4K

Well the story in the first game was Deunte Heath. He gave up one earned run and lost a no hitter with two outs in the 7th inning. I'm still not comfortable with his walks but I don't think it is going to hurt him at this level. He pretty much took the place of Tommy Hanson with this one.

Myrtle Beach 1, Potomac 0

  • C. Rodriguez - 1-2 BB, K
  • J. Owings - 1-2 2B, BB
  • K. Cofield - 5.2IP 7H 0R 3BB 3K

Cofield bounced back with a strong start and the Pelicans get the double header sweep raising their season record to 25-13 and they are running away from their division. Ernesto Mejia's 14 game hitting streak finally came to an end in this one. It was quite a run too.

Augusta 2, Rome 1

  • J. Heyward - 1-3 BB
  • C. Johnson - 1-3 2B, BB, K
  • S. Diamond - 7IP 2H 1R 1BB 6K

Rome just can't score any runs off of the Augusta pitching staff. They have scored 6 runs in 6 games against them with 2 being their highest total in any of the games. Diamond pitched another solid game and is starting to catch my eye. Nothing else too special going on here.

w/r/t Richmond..

..don’t know if you noticed. But last night Jones, Canizares and Thorman went back to back to back with their home runs.
