Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

The Future...

With the draft only a few weeks away, who do you see as potential picks for the Braves?  Because of Glavine we won't pick until #40.  Which position do you think we should go after?  Personally, I could see us going several directions.  Pitching is always an area that teams are going to focus on.  We could probably use a good 3B prospect as well.

Here's my thought at potential picks:

Chris Dominguez, 3B, Louisville

Kyle Long, LHP/1B, HS

Daniel Schlereth, LHP, Arizona

D.J. Hicks, 1B, HS

Destin Hood, OF, HS

Thanks for the links!

I’m not all that up on the baseball draft, but I’m trying to get into it this year. I think we should simply go for the best player available, because with apprenticeship in baseball, these guys won’t be in the majors for a few years and we won’t know what our needs will be at that time. We’ve stockpiled heavily at certain positions in the past (C, SS, CF) so I don’t think they focus too much on their positions now. I think more general traits will guide the picks, such as power potential and perhaps handedness.

Those picks will all likely be unavaliable by 40

Zach Cone, LHP/OF Parkview High school, thats my best guess.

Didn’t Francoeur go to Parkview High School? Unless…Zach Cone goes to the Park View High School that was my rival…interesting.

Another note on Cone.

His agent is a former braves scout turned agent.

That connection means they would reach for Cone (slightly) He isn’t the 40th best player in the draft, but he should be cake to sign, and the braves love local talent.

Long

A lot of teams may be scared to take Long because he could go the football route in college. With a NFL HoF dad and recent draft pick brother, he may decide against baseball. I think he’s worth the risk…

he is too talented to fall to the braves.

This Long will play baseball though, he is dead set on not playing professional football.

I think his name is Tyler Scheppers. He has a fractured shoulder or shoulder blade.( 1 of the 2 ). He was going to probably be a top 10 before his injury. They siad he was going to fall but i don’t know if he would fall to 40 for the braves though.
