Braves at Pirates, Game 2... For the love of all that is holy, WIN!
Atlanta Braves at Pittsburgh Pirates, May 12, 2008 8:05 PM EDT
Seriously, this road record has reached absurdity. And now Teixeira has back spasms. I really despise games in which we have more hits than our opponent, but still manage to lose. Hudson has to get us back on track in Game 2.

Take a look
at Van Benschoten’s stats: http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_stats_player.jsp?playerID=429724&statType=2
Obviously, he really sucks. So we have no chance.
nothing like
ATJ to lead-off with a K. The domination of JVB begins. He will probably have a perfect game.
so depressing
nothing worse than missing a day game while at work. Oh wait, yeah there is. Missing it after they’ve been shutout with more hits than the opposition. Oh wait, it gets worse even? Missing TWO day games that we’re going to lose?
Someone, please, make yourself a player.
Pete
just announced that the Braves will not lose all the rest of their road games.
That’s a relief.

Hahahahaha
Damn, I dropped down a few posts in the old thread back there. Didn’t realize that a new one was present until a run scored, and nobody said a thing.

Say what?
FYF with the hitting? S’okay SK will GIDP for us. bring it back home.
Yay!
I was wrong. Please let us win on the road finally. That’d be a nice plane ride, for them at least.
I hate to be a buzzkill
But there’s one guy we haven’t seen in quite a while.
His name starts with a T, ends with an L, and his first name is “The”

jeez
come on, too early…only the 4th.
Plus, Bennett has had about an hour to rest. He should be ready to go.
Haha
Too true. Bennett’s arm is going to pop out of its socket like Gary Busey in Rookie of the Year.
one more time ... for sting!! a sports blog written by two opinionated males
For a 29 year old...
Bobby sure treats Bennett like a 38 year old come back veteran stop-gap relief pitcher that they have no intention of using the next year.

+1 if
They talk about his superb bat while at Auburn.

Useless trivia via Boog
Matty Alou- 1st batter in Fulton Co. Stadium (played for Pittsburgh)
Felipe Alou- 1st Braves batter there
Moises Alou- Last batter ever
You knew it was coming
And all of them pissed all over their hands to get their iron-like soft batting grip.

I'm surprised
Jug, you didn’t catch the IN MY OWN WORDS TOM GLAVINE, in the 72 times SportSouth’s already played it?
He chose baseball for longevity, and clearly he chose correctly.

Yeah…the worst I ever saw was when Jason Kendall broke his leg. Anyone remember that?
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Back when Kendall was on the Pirates...
...he tried to make an extra step and beat out a grounder, but hit the bag akwardly and went tumbling. When he finally stopped he was on his back clutching his leg, broken right between the ankle and knee…pretty much looked like it was hanging on by a thread.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Unfortunately
But I saw worse playing football. Guy had a similar ankle injury as Kendall’s. Cut right off my block, tried to do a spin move and spun off his ankle.
Yeah...
...looked about the same as Wells’

Hopefully
This will be the start of one of those insane streaks that the Braves go on, like 2 years ago when they scored like 80 runs in 7 games against the Cardinals and Padres and one against the Phillies.

Just got home from work
and I’m soooo glad we decided to score some runs… looked like a sweet homer from Heap.
talking about the all star game on another board
one guy INSISTED that Yadier Molina deserves the start more than McCann

agree
here was his reply
Numbers schmumbers….............
If Martin didn’t have so many damn home runs last year Yadi would have been the starter!!
Power numbers shouldn’t dictate the catchers position.
You ever seen this guy throw?
He basically threw out someone from his belly a week or so ago. I can’t recall who it was, but it was one of the fastest players in the game. Maybe someone on the Rockies. And he’s ALWAYS throwing people out at FIRST base after the pitch is thrown.
Call me a homer. Yadi’s the best defensive catcher in MLB today, or the last 2 years.

Blah...
...I was watching a Twins game the other day. Mauer is a tremendous defensive catcher.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Since when?
He’s got a .395 career OBP as a catcher and normally throws out at least 35% of his baserunners?

I'd like to call Cooke's pest control.
And have them work on rooting out all the Cooke’s pest control commercials. They are a pestilence.

Because I have ears sir.
Because I have ears.
These sound...
...about as bad as the Eastern Motors commercials we have in the NOVA area. Staring Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, the late Sean Taylor…and the old black guy from the movie Friday.

LaVar Arrington was doing those? As a kid, I was never more scared of another human being than seeing him smile in those commercials.

Who bunts a man over
with 1 out, down by 6 runs?
Still.
Let him swing, maybe something happens, but that’s a nearly completely useless sac.
Which is Andruw Jones' new nickname.
I’ve decided. Useless Sack.

Jug, I hold you responsible for the posting of the image, if we do hold out and win the game. URL is: http://creativejock.net/junkbox/jk_gray.jpg
I expect to see it posted when I get home later tonight.
I’ve been waiting to post this variant for the longest time, but if we can’t win on the road, there is no posting opportunities.

Yeah.
I am pretty proud of my fantasy trade from a month and a half ago. I traded Braun and Oswalt for Chipper and Huddy.
Probably only one more though. Already at 95 pitches with a 7 run lead.

So for those of you not watching on TV
LaRoche came to the plate to “You’re the Best” from the Karate Kid Soundtrack. That is awesome!
Okay.
Let’s get one more hit for Chipper, maybe a tater. And then finish this game off. Get on the road boys!
Such a terrible leadoff hitter, what, getting on base and all.

Awwwww.
They sat our boy. I suppose he is old and needs his rest.
He had 1 hit this game, but dammit it was a good one. Opened up the flood gates.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions
What do you think it is?
He doesn’t have alot of movement on his fastball, so when people know it’s coming they crush it…are his secondary pitches so bad that hitters go up there only looking fastball? Or does he just not use his secondary pitches enough?
From what I’ve seen of him this year it seems like he relies on his heater too often.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions
The times that I have seen him be successful
He uses his curve ball effectively. I posted this the other day. I don’t know if anybody saw it.
Games he has given up a run- 4 innings with 10 ER
Games where he HASN’T given up a run- 17 scoreless innings
Yeah…that ratio really stands out to me. He could be a dominant late innings reliver.
by Smoltz's Beard on May 12, 2008 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions
What is going on?
Norton got on base, yet again, and Francoeur followed it up with a XBH?
Where has this offense been?
Stuck in Atlanta.
Guess there was a problem getting it on the plane. Something about a terrorist watch list.
Ahhhh
There are those road grays I’ve wanted to post for so long.
Good job, jug, much appreciated.
one more time ... for sting!! a sports blog written by two opinionated males
There it is.
They better keep winning on the road. 4 game streak starting now.
I’ll be happy with 2/3 from the Phillies. We seem to play pretty well against the good teams this year, and do horrible against the teams we should beat (1-6 in Colorado and Pittsburgh. The fuck?)
Seems like the Braves have been playing to the level of the competition for the past 3 years.
