You can't win them all but . . .
Wow, how many other Braves followers out there look at games like last night and wonder is that the one that kept us from making it to post season? It was another frustrating, double play hitting, mis-opportunity, waste of a game. Glavine deserved better. I still feel that Johnson would be better suited batting seventh or eighth but not leadoff. His inability to get down that bunt set up double play #52 this season and another 1 run road loss. That hurt! To do list: lead off hitter, first baseman after Tex leaves and practice bunting!

I'm not a stat guy but...
Braves are tied with the Nationals in leading the NL East for Vidros (GIDPs) with 31.
Mark Kotsay is among the league leaders in Vidros with 7.
The Diamond backs have Vidro’d 18 times. Figure that.
There are only two teams with more Vidros than the Braves. The Rockies (32), and strangely enough the Central-leading Cardinals (39).
Stats as of May 10th, 2008.

Uh, Kelly may not be a leadoff guy, but last season suggests he’s the best suited of anyone not named Chipper in the lineup, and the idea he’s the 7th or 8th best hitter in our lineup is hilarious. Even the way he’s playing now he’s better than Diaz and Francoeur.

Um, Really?
The guy couldn’t get a bunt down, then SOMEONE ELSE hit into a double play and you figure he shouldn’t be our leadoff hitter anymore? AND you think he’s a 7th or 8th hitter??? By the way, Kelly has a better OBP and SLG than either Francouer or Diaz over the last 30 days, so there’s no way he should bat lower than 6th with those two in the line-up. If you think batting him at the top of our line-up is costing us games, you’re a bit myopic. I’m not sure we can buy into Kotsay or Blanco putting up better numbers than Kelly in the long haul, but they’re the guys you could put up at leadoff instead of Kelly.
I get your frustration, but we’re all of 2.5 GB of first place, behind a Marlins team that’s way over it’s head. We’ve survived a plague of injuries plus rotten luck and we’re still over .500. This doom and gloom mentality is unwarranted and annoying. We have a fine team, one that’s only going to do better and get stronger as the season progress through the summer. Relax and enjoy the ride, even if it gets a little bumpy at times.
