Braves @ Buccaneers (Also NAHWAL)

Atlanta @ Pittsburgh

Wow, so this road record thing needs to get straighted out. We have been better at home the past couple of seasons but this year is just ridiculous. For the last three or four years we have been right around the .500 mark on the road but 4-12 just can't cut it. Luckily we are 14-4 at home. This has to balance out a little at some point.

Chuck James tosses again tonight. His ERA looks pretty rough so far but if it hadn't been for all those bad games he pitched it would look a whole lot better. Seriously though, he walked too many guys last time out and gave up a 2-run homer. I like Chuckie but I don't know how much faith I have in him right now. I guess we just cross our fingers and hope for the good CJ.

Tom Gorzelanny throws for the Pirates (he is the guy I was thinking about while writing yesterdays post) and his season has been almost as rocky as James' so far. His ERA is a large 6.91 and he is walking a man an inning and has 10 less K than walks. Yikes. Some people here would have me believe that a poor K/BB ratio isn't a a big deal, but I dunno, walking as many men as you sit down doesn't seem to be a great way to go about your business. Thats just me. Gorzelanny does have a back problem and there are some concerns that he may not start but all signs are saying he will at this point. The guy has talent so our hitters still need to stay on their toes against him.

Lowered Expectations

1. 30,001
2. Greg Norton
3. Braves get swept due to the fact that the Pirates are the fucking Dbacks all of a sudden, and with their army of left-handed starting pitchers, Chipper and Teixeira will be neutralized, as will McCann, and Francoeur will GIDP or ground out 5-3 or 6-3 every time, and Mark Kotsay will miss his wife and slump, the umps will call Kelly Johnson out for never swinging, and Bobby will get thrown out of every game with hopes to inspire his team, and will watch from the locker room as they lose the next three days 4-3, 3-2, and 7-6.

Oh wait, I don’t qualify for a point on losses?

Okay then. Matt Diaz gets on base 3 times today then.

Reverse Psychology

It’s one of those things, where I put myself in the line of fire by making all these pessimistic expectations, and when the Braves end up winning 13-3, everyone can point and laugh at me, but I will secretly be happy, while I click the code away to post the picture of Jamie Kotsay in celebration of the win.

Another QS for Glavine last night. That’s 3-6 on the season, which doesn’t include his 5 IP, 1 ER game against PIT at the beginning of the year. For all the people in the off-season who raised hell about picking him up…he’s doing what we got him for, you should start blaming the offense now.

Re-heh-ally

Wonder why?

by jug on May 10, 2008 6:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I know it isn't likely

but we had better be patient tonight.

Gorzelanny in 2008:

27.3 IP, 27 BBs!
So, obviously his WHIP is 1.902 and ERA at 4.10.

Only 17 Ks and 0 of the 27 were IBB.

by jug on May 10, 2008 7:04 PM EDT   0 recs

So

apparently the players didn’t see this.

Nor saw that he averages 4.5 innings per start. He only has 70 pitches through 6.

by jug on May 10, 2008 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

AGAIN.

Anybody freaking see these stats?

Yes

yes, Jeff took a walk because Ron told him to be patient.

The Montgomery Biscuits...

...TB’s AA farm team have been pretty good for a while (Southern League Champs ‘06, ‘07). This is just down the road from me, and I’ve got a buddy from there. They have definitely been building. I would love to see the Rays take a team of no-names and win the AL East.

by jug on May 10, 2008 7:28 PM EDT   0 recs

of course...

the Mississippi Braves play in the same league as the biscuits…

by jug on May 10, 2008 7:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I usually go to a couple of Biscuits games a year (try to catch them playing the Mississippi Braves whenever possible), and they have had some good players the last few years.

Chuck

As long as he keeps his pitches from getting too much of the K zone, he should do OK today. So far, he has been.

by jug on May 10, 2008 7:31 PM EDT   0 recs

the pin in Infante’s hand, and one of them says, “What’s your pin number.” The other one was absolutely silent.
