Our fearless play-by-play guy vs. Buzz Bissinger

Anyone who saw/heard about Buzz Bissinger's profane ambush of Deadspin creator Will Leitch should take seven minutes to listen to this interview of Buzz conducted by Boog Sciambi on his radio show.  I knew Boog was a good PBP guy, but I had no idea he was so informed.

Over on FJM, they compile the data .

I hear Bissinger's a good writer.  I've never read any of his work, and I probably never will.  I don't know how you guys felt about the encounter.  Blogs like Talking Chop are probably outside the fray as far as Bissinger is concerned, although bloggers would argue that he's wrong to omit them.

I'd love to know what you all think about this and about the Blogs vs. Mainstream Media debate in general.

I had set my DVR...

...to record the segment, but before I got a chance to watch it I had read the reactions on Deadspin and FireJoeMorgan. I actually got a chance to watch the segment last night and all I have to say is…wow. Bissinger came off looking like a blubbering idiot. I’m amazed that Leitch just didn’t punch him in the throat. What was even worse was that it was pretty clear what side Costas was on, which rendered the entire discussion less than fair. After watching the discussion I went from Deadspin, to Awful Announcing, to Kissing Suzy Kolber, etc, etc just reading the responses to Bissinger’s antics. 2 hours went by before I realized I needed to get my ass to bed. If I had ever had respect for Bissinger in the first place I would have lost all of it…but I didn’t and I won’t. The funniest part of the segment was when Bissinger was screaming obscenities at Leitch and Will was trying to respond, and he looked over and apologized to Braylon Edwards who hadn’t even had the chance to speak. Braylon puts his hands up in the classic “don’t shoot me” pose and says the most perfect two words…”I’m chillen”. I was dying…

Here’s a link to the segment, it kind of sucks because this video cuts out a good chuck of what Michael Schur has to say (Ken Tremendous at FireJoeMorgan, also writes for The Office, also plays Dwight’s cousin Mose on The Office): Enjoy

yeah

I’m from Miami and an avid listener of 790 The Ticket. I heard that interview a while back and the guy is such a phony. Here’s an interview Buzz did yesterday on the same radio station to apologize for his actions on that Bob Costas show. The new interview is here

By the way, do you live in Miami zwillis?

I....

..lost a lot of respect for Buzz, but with that said “Three Nights In August” is a great friggin’ book. He maybe an ass, but he’s one hell of a writer.

His apology improved things. Not sure what exactly he said to Leitch about it all, but Leitch bears no ill will. It seems like he’s just a blustering douchebag who can’t shut himself up most of the time. And he’s right, he has some good points that were obscured by the manner in which he delivered them. There are some pretty stupid blogs out there, but there’s also a ton of really good ones. But what is there to argue about? He can’t stop blogs from existing, and he can’t force them to be journalistically responsible. Blogs don’t do anything illegal; as long as there’s a readership, they’ll be successful.

I know it's "only spring training," but is it time to be concerned about McLouth?
