Groundhog Day: Hampton re-injures pectoral
Lefty leaves rehab start early due to discomfort in pectoral
WASHINGTON -- Mike Hampton was forced to leave Wednesday afternoon's Minor League rehab start in the fourth inning after feeling more discomfort in his strained left pectoral muscle.
After throwing a first-pitch strike to Durham's Reid Brignac with one out in the fourth inning, Hampton called toward the dugout, prompting Triple-A Richmond manager Dave Brundage and trainer Mike Grauss to visit the mound.
Moments later, the 35-year-old southpaw exited the game and put his return to the Majors in even further doubt.
"He was throwing good and then he just started feeling it during those last three pitches," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. "He just thought it was best to come out."
Mike, Mike, Mike.

Color me
nonplussed. Seriously, I’ll be far more surprised if he ever throws more than one pitch of a MLB mound again.

not surprised either.
Actually, the only thing I’m surprised about is that it was the same injury and not something different.

definition here, please...
What does “feeling it” mean? He is in horrible pain? He is in a lot of pain? He is in some pain? He feels twinges of discomfort? He is aware that he has a left pectoral muscle and that it seems to be moving? WHAT? Jeez, I know there are those who say he’s not dogging it and really wants to come back, but I’m starting to have a few doubts. Does he not realize he’s not that young anymore, and something is probably going to hurt when he pitches, and he may have to live with that? Please, I cannot take it anymore. Somebody hit him with a Smoltz stick.

Who cares.
I don’t.
I’m over Mike Hampton. I used to think he wants to play, but anymore I don’t.
Players like him are the reason that major league teams need some sort of protection from paying these disgusting contracts to players that contribute absolutely nothing.

Absolutely!
Give him his check and send him home. Write off the loss and move on. It’s been way too long. Thankfully, the Braves had help paying him before now; not sure how much the insurance company is willing to pick up anymore!

just think of it like this. We get 18 million bucks to play with at the end of the season.

Solace
Yes, if that’s any solace. In the meantime, we have a couple of desirable plyers (that I’m not sure will ever make it) that we could use as trade bait to get some young pitching. Along with those trades and the available cash at the end of the year we should be able to strengthen the team for next year. Problem is: we still have a looooooong way to go this year and it will be a difficult trip on crutches…

Just cut Hampton's head off and be done with it.

Not physical
That’s the only part of him that appears not to have suffered physical injury; can’t say the same for psychological, though!

Who?
Who is Mike Hampton? I’ve been watching the Braves for the past two years and I’ve never seen this guy play, who is he?

The beauty of viddeo games...
On MLB 2K8 for Xbox 360 Hampton is healthy for the Braves.
I got him through five starts.
He was 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA.
I promptly traded he and Matt Diaz to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and Johnathan Broxton.
Perhaps the most unbalanced trade in the history of the world, real or fantasy.

Hmm...
...I think that AJ Pierzynski for Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser is still pretty bad.
