Oswalt's Future

Roy Oswalt has a full no trade clause and he said he would wave it if the Astros approached him about a trade which hasn't happened.  But the 3 teams he would only wave it for would be the Cardinals, BRAVES, and the Bo Soxs.  Off the top of my head why he picked these places are great managers, winning teams well maybe not the Cards.

Oswalt is relatively really cheap.  But would Ed Wade consider trading Oswalt after he made Key accquistions which include the likes of  Valverde, Tejada, and Bourn?  And it doesn't take probably more than 85 wins to win the Division or maybe not even 85.

Do you think Wren would do this after the Braves so called emptied their farm system for Teixara?  Would you do it?

What would the Braves have to give up for Oswalt?   The Astos have solid Outfielders so thier probably want pitching the most.  They would ask  about  Jurriens, James,  Rourbough, Morton, Hanson, HOPEFULLY REYES, maybe Locke or  Cordier.  Other players besides pitchers that would be asked about and included or center the trade around are Lillebridge, Schafer, Jones, Heyward, Johnson, Hernandez and others.

Oswalt’s from Mississippi. Why he’d go to St. Louis or Atlanta, is probably because it’s close to home, and he was probably a fan of one or both teams when he was younger. And Boston is Boston – they’re like the Lakers of MLB – Sean Casey, for example jumped to them because they might provide one of the best chances at a ring.

If I were Wren, I’d at least humor the idea. Oswalt, IMO, is on that elite-level ace pitcher that can anchor a staff. With Smoltz and Glavine getting up there, a guy like Oswalt to team up with Hudson and Jurrjens would still make a formidable, respectable rotation.

Granted, they’d probably have to give up quite a great deal to get him, but it doesn’t hurt to inquire.

one key point

we are dealing with ED WADE here. if wren offered him, say, lillibridge & reyes, wade would probably think “GEE GOLLY, THATS A GREAT DEAL!” and we’d get oswalt. wow.

I say

Resop for Oswalt, straight up.

Even if I were Ed Wade...

I wouldn’t take Resop, and his entire family for slavery for one of Oswalt’s fingers.

If only it were that easy.

Maybe they’d give us Oswalt if we offered to not trade Resop to them.

Good to see

that everyone is seeing what I saw in Resop the first week. Who cares if you have a live arm if you get hit hard it doesn’t matter.

Resop

lay off of the guy, at least we can say he is a decent left fielder, he didnt make an error

deep in the heart of Houston here

Oswalt said his “trade” comments were taken out of context, and he has absolutely no interest in going anywhere else. Now if the Astros continue to suck for a few more years, maybe he’ll change his mind…

From a management standpoint, Oswalt’s signed to a ridiculously cheap deal. His peripheral numbers have been declining, but he’s still considered “ace” material. Cheap + good? Almost no chance he gets traded.

Rotation in shambles

Oswalt would be a god sent… But I think the ‘Stros would want a kings ranson for him and we don’t have it.

After this year I honestly think we need to tear down and rebuild even more. I see no situation where Glavine or Hampton are back, and I personally don’t think I would consider bringing back Mark Kotsay and I would see what I could get in a trade for Matt Diaz.

And this hurts to say… But after the start on sunday do we think this could be the beginning of the end for Smoltz? I think there’s something really wrong with that arm, and at his age, with his history…

Smoltzie is my favorite player of all time, so please don’t take that as bashing him.. I just want to be realistic.

2009

I think there’s a strong chance that we won’t have Smoltz, Glav, or Hampton back next year, so the starting rotation will need some help, but we’ve got enough quality position players that I don’t think we need to worry about a rebuilding year in the near future.

possibly Schaeffer

Would we give up on Jordan for Oswalt? With Gorkys now in the system and Jordan’s suspension could Wren go that route?

Jurrjens; no way

I don’t see the Braves including Jurrjens in any deal. I think they would be willing to include Reyes and a group of others, though.
