Open Thread and NAHWAL: Please Sweep

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Atlanta Braves

This is a real-time post. i'm still up at this hour, please do not refer to what is keeping me up. I will only say that there needs to be some sort of post-inebriated mental genie that keeps one from drinking so much.

By the way, if it seems like I've been a zombie recently, that's true, and it may be more pronounced in the near future. Work has been all-consuming and they may send me to Singapore next week, so that will be interesting / slash less-than-full-time. Kudos to Matt (that yondaime guy) who has been doing a great job with the minor league updates.

Arrrrrrggghhhh!!!!  I want a sweep!!!

Broom.

Gondee…in the midst of your alcohol-related stuper it would be great if you went back to the game against Lowe and updated my NAHWAL points. I picked Chipper as my #2.

I myself enjoy a snifter of port at Christmas, but I can’t have some lush blog-running botching my points when Steven Segal drinks are on the line…GOD.

Diaz

the whole series off!...killing my picks. Curious about the amount of ‘rest’ Bobby’s giving him all of the sudden. Don’t get me wrong, I think Blanco is better defensively…and is showing some promise at the plate. But Bobby saying he just wanted to rest Diaz (3 starts) because he had played every game coming into the series (15) just seems strange.

by OntheGo on Apr 20, 2008 1:50 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, I don’t know about that. I think Diaz is pretty well-rested at this point.

Kotsay in the six hole? Wow, thats uh…something.

Blonde or Brunette?

Behind home plate, when leftie is up and camera zooms on the batter. Blonde in red tank top, brunette in green NICE. I love HD…
Go Braves!

commentary

Ron Darling sucks. He’s making Chip Caray look good by comparison.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 2:32 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

meh

At least we got on the board…we’re really working the count well against Kuroda, he’s got 68 pitches through 3. No way he gets past 5. Awful AB by Francoeur to end the inning though…gets to 2-0, and takes 2 horrible swings that result in a weak grounder to short.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 2:40 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We are seemingly more patient today, working the count. Almost too much even, there have been some pitches that were really hittable the guys took. But, I’m not going to complain.

Jurrjens looks pretty good so far. Getting some good location & velocity.

Agreed on Frenchy. C’mon Jeff, you can do better!

haha

i was preparing a post saying something like “perfect 12 pitch inning”. yeah.

why does corky miller have a job? guy can’t hit a lick.

?!?!?!?

please, oh god PLEASE let that just be a bruise.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 3:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well...

you’re not gonna hear Chipper and Smoltzie sniping about one another playing thru some pain this year. And I think Chipper thought he got all of that one and had to hustle it into a double…that can hurt ailing legs.

by OntheGo on Apr 20, 2008 3:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They are both tough mofos.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 3:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Frenchy killed that ball! To bad Andruw plays center field.

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ASS HEAD

That guy at second for the Dodgers has made some tough plays today!!

ugh

Lets hope Chipper got pulled for precautionary reasons and nothing serious.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 3:22 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And he has been killing the ball too!

Yes...

by Smoltz's Beard on Apr 21, 2008 9:16 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ah

There we go Corky, in your 3 ABs, you’ve hit the ball a combined total of what, 40 feet? And allowed 2 stolen bases? WAY TO EARN THAT PAYCHECK!

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 3:33 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Scott Proctor...

getting ready? Riiiiiiight he was squatting there!

That was a BS call by the plate umpire on that strike to Kelly.

he’s going on fumes. i can’t believe he’s one out from a quality start. that would be the worst QS ever.

anyone was getting that one

by OntheGo on Apr 20, 2008 3:44 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

argh

if that ball goes 5 more foot, 4 runs score…because with the way andruw was loafing, no way does he get to the ball.

hit after we got robbed last inning

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:02 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

REALLY????

If Martin would have caught that I would have turned the game off.

You think that Corky could have caught that?

WOW

WE HAVE A MATT DIAZ SIGHTING

Diaz

Pinch-hits and HR. I’m calling it.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nice but

I think he’s gonna gap a pitch out of the strike zone

by OntheGo on Apr 20, 2008 4:07 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well, nice try Matt. You looked worse than Frenchy.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:10 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He’ll get it together. He is going after pitches instead of letting them come to him. He’s too anxious to hit, and not just have a good AB.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:12 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

REALLY

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU SWING AT THAT??!

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:09 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Aha.

Now I know why Blanco starts.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:10 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:11 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

OOOPS

Do you guys think that Tex is starting to come around?

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:12 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yes. by the end of the month he’ll be at .250, and by the end of may, he should be at .280 or so, and we really can’t complain about that

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 4:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I hope so.

Simply because I am tired of hearing EVERY game that he is a slow-starter and never has a good April.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He has had

Two big hits in this series.

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yunel

plays the game different…I love it

by OntheGo on Apr 20, 2008 4:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

uh?

that coulda been interference on andruw during pierre’s second steal…he didn’t make an attempt to get out of the way.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 4:19 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually, a batter is taught to stay still. It’s when a batter attempts to get out the way and contact is made that interference is called. As long as he stays in his spot in the box and doesn’t make a move, you don’t have interference.

by musicman on Apr 20, 2008 4:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Credit. The score should be like 6-1 Braves.

Way to go Boyer!

Anybody know his contract status? I know they signed him in ‘05, but for how long? Just curious.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:37 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he hasn’t even reached arbitration status yet. we’ve got him for at least 5 years

alright!

lets see if diaz can break out of that slump now.

by bigjoe on Apr 20, 2008 4:37 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah...

I was talking about that earlier. We should sign him through at least next year.

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You would have been...

...beat down with that comment just one month ago. My how things change.

by gondeee on Apr 20, 2008 4:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think his back is feeling better.

by jug on Apr 20, 2008 4:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Kotsay's...

... also still pretty young (in baseball terms) at 32, so my guess is he’ll be looking for one more longer-term contract for some cash—like three years at $21 million or so. I don’t know that the Braves would buy that.

by gondeee on Apr 20, 2008 4:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You are right

about that. I don’t think the Braves would go for an extended contract.

by mvandonsel on Apr 20, 2008 4:44 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

good point

guess it depends on what we do with Tex, and if we have to go get some pitchers?

HA!

I fooled you all! I actually watched the game today and they still won!

Great stuff, I loved watching JJ carve up that lineup…especially AJ. Saw that hit by Boomstick coming a mile away, awesome stuff. It is funny, though, that when KJ botched that short-hopper I was cursing him up and down, and then comes back with a big hit late in the game and a great defensive play to his glove side to end the inning.

agreed

He’s def. not Frank Thomas!

He is a class act, and he’ll get back to hitting once he settles down and gets some confidence back. Right now though, man, he looks lost up there, just flailing away at pitches trying to get lucky.
