I would totally make fun of this turn of events, but I am well aware that Smoltz is "currently" on the DL and Hampton is a sneeze away. By the way, I so thought that Hampton was going to sprain his hand or something when he was high-fiving the team during player introductions on opening day.

schadenfreude?
Obviously, my first reaction was "Sweet, the Mets are screwed." But their rotation was always screwed, especially if Perez comes back to earth (personally I always thought the good Oliver was the real one though) and/or they get post-ASB John Maine. They had to expect something like this.
My point is, try not to laugh in the Mets' faces. After all, Hampton is not as good as Pedro, has a worse contract, and obviously has a much more significant injury history. Seems like bad juju to get too excited about this.

Braves rotation
Speaking of starting pitching and our somewhat precarious one now...
How do y'all think JJ will fare tonight in his Braves debut? He was solid in his first two ST starts and then got a little iffy.
Hudson was on fire (except for one inning) on Sunday and Glavine only gave up 2 R's 1 ER on Monday.
I think (I hope) Hampton will surprise us but you're right, Gondee he makes me nervous too.

Pedro
As a Mets fan, we knew he wasn't going to be around at the start of the year. His season doesn't start until July. It really doesn't throw us off that much. What we were hoping is that we could get half a season out of El Duque and half a season out of Pedro. If that happened, we thought that El Pedro would have been a solid No. 2 or No. 3 starter and given us about 16-8.
The trouble now is that Pinata Pelfrey is here to stay. He's a wreck.
