4/19 Minor League Update: Tommy Hanson Pitched

Charlotte 1, Richmond 3

  • B. Lillibridge - 2-4 K
  • R. Taylor - 2-3
  • C. Sammons - 2-3 HR(1), 3 RBI, K
  • P. Stockman - 2.1IP 0H 0R 3K
  • A solid win for the R-Braves with all the runs coming off a 4th inning shot from Clint Sammons. Also put me in the Phil Stockman fan club. I am really surprised by what has been up with Lillibridge this season. He is batting .152 after having a solid spring and nearly making the big club. I was really high on him but he just hasn't hit at all. Has anyone seen him in Spring Training or Richmond that could tell what may different between the two? Also Canizares 8 game hitting streak ended tonight if you were keeping track.

Huntsvilles 10, Mississippi 2 (in progress)

Carlos Sencion got lit up in his first AA outing giving up 2 runs in 0.2IP and Dan Smith is getting beat hard so far this season. Also Van Pope was activated from the DL with little fanfare. Diory Hernandez hit his second homer of the season and drove in the only other run of the game for the Braves. How long do you guys think before Hanson is the anchor here? A month? Two?

    Myrtle Beach 8, Kinston 0

  • G. Hernandez 2-4 HR(2), K
  • W. Cabrera - 1-4 2B, 2 RBI
  • J. Owings - 1-4 HR(2), 2 RBI, K
  • E. Mejia - 2-4 HR(1)
  • T. Hanson - 6IP 1H 0R 2BB 6K
  • So until Tommy Hanson allows an earned run he won't move off the top of my HOTLIST. I'm just saying. The dude has allowed 6BB and 5H this season in 22IP. Just amazing. Maybe he has developed the double gyro-ball. Also, if Gorkys goes hitless in a game he is guaranteed to get at least two hits in the next game. He has done it following every hitless game he has had this season. Deunte Heath looks to one up Tommy tomorrow.

    Savannah 5, Rome 4

  • J. Heyward - 1-4 2B, BB
  • C. Johnson - 1-2 2 BB, K
  • F. Freeman - 3-4 2 RBI, BB
  • J. Ortegano - 6IP 5H 2R 1BB 7K
  • Ortegano pitched pretty damn well, but Rodgers came in and blew it for him. They did K 12 in 9IP, but this team needs to stop letting people cross home plate. Freddie Freeman has turned into the most consistent hitter on this team. He had a little adjustment period at the beginning of the season but he has 4 multi-hit games in his last ten played and 5 of his 6 XBH. Hopefully these guys will start to show more power soon as a whole.

I was at the Myrtle Beach game and all i can say about Hanson is wow. He kept the kinston hitters off balance all night. He touched 97 in the third and kept his curve working well. Also on another thought how long does everyone think it will take for Freeman to bump Mejia for first base on the pelicans? I know Mejia had a good game tonight but freeman has turned into a very consistent hitter and has only struck out 8 times.

it is good to see Hanson’s fastball up there. I just hope he isn’t overthrowing. I think Freeman may have to add a little power before they bump him up to the next level. He has a few doubles but has yet to homer (though heyward only has one homer thus far). How does Freeman’s swing look?

    Lilli

From what I saw in Rochester, part of Lillbridge’s problem was that breaking stuff was just killing him. In one AB, he was thrown the same down-and-away breaking pitch and offered the same feeble swing, three consecutive pitches. I didn’t see him in ST so I don’t know if its always been like that, or something that has recently developed.

    Lillibridge

I haven’t seen Lillibridge play, but I heard in ST he’s getting killed by sliders low and away… a lot like Andruw and Frenchy have been.

He started 5 for 50 this season, so even at .152, he’s improving.

    my god

Hanson’s season line: 22 IP, 2-0, 5 hits, 1 run (unearned), 6 walks, 32 strikeouts. WHIP is a stellar 0.50, ERA is nonexistent.

Dear god, when’s he gonna get the bump to Pearl?
