Nats release John Patterson
I'd really like to sign him. Not sure the nature of his injury, but he was a good pitcher when healthy. His lifetime stats aren't great, but the one year he was healthy (2005) he was 9-7, 3.13 ERA, 1.19 WHIP through almost 200 innings.
I'm amazed the Nats didn't just wait for him to rehab, it's not like they have a pitching surplus.

He'll get picked up
but with young pitchers like chico, hanrahan, lannan to name a few, ready for the bigs now, i suppose patterson and his higher-than-the-rest-of-the-players salary were expendible.

holy cow
the kid is good, just needs to be in the right place. i like him alot, and he's still got potential, but I don't see Atlanta taking him.

Psychology
I mean c'mon, the Nationals aren't stupid. It's surprising because we don't keep up with them and the only times we've heard of Patterson is when he dominated us a few years ago. He's obviously not the same pitcher and potential is probably not there anymore.

simply put
with this kind of fluff in his head, there's no better place for him to be than next to fellow new age nut, barry zito, out in san francisco. that way, when he's healthy, we won't have to deal with him too often, either.
