Our Future Coaching Staff

As much as I want Bobby Cox to manage forever, I know it ain't happening.  Then I was reading an article on ajc.com about Chipper being the leader in the clubhouse and another hitting coach to the younger players.

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/sportscolumns/entries/2008/03/13/chipper_more_co.h tml

It got me thinking after the part about Pendelton  passing the torch to Justice...  Chipper HAS to be our next hitting coach.  Why do I say this?  Well, back of my mind tells me Terry will inherit the Manager's role when Bobby is ready to give it to him.  On top of that, many of you will probably say Smoltzie should get this job, but no (he is focusing on his school in Alpharetta when he retires), Maddux is the pitching coach.  Wouldn't that be flippin sweet?    Then Blauser can be the bench coach.

We can stack that coaching staff with Brave greats.  (Keep Hubbard of course)

Just a thought.

Boo
I cannot support any post that supports Jeff Blauser in any capacity...

blauser
he's got a great baseball mind.

Put it this way
The players don't like Blauser.  I don't want to slam the guy, but his reputation precedes him.

He ain't ready.

Chipper....
I don't see Chipper retiring and going straight to the coaching job. He'll take some time out of the game before doing that, but he'd be a great hitting coach someday.

I'm not sure if Smoltz would make a good manager. I dunno. He doesn't seem like the type to me, but I don't really know him.

Maddux/Smoltz/Glavine would all be a great pitching coaches but, like Chipper, I think they'll take time away from the game before coaching.

I think TP will be our next manager, that is if Bobby retires soon. I don't see him waiting around for the job if something else becomes offered to him.

Meh
I think Chipper's too lazy to be a hitting coach.  You've got to look past former Braves for coaching positions.

That said, I think Glavine is the next pitching coach.  McDowell isn't very good at mechanics and a lot of the young guys are suffering for it.

lazy?

what are you smoking?

Well....
TP has had offers in the past I think. I think he'd stick around til cox retires if he waited this long. I'd love to see Chipper as the Hitting Coach and I really think Mad Dog is gonna be the Pitching Coach in the future. Of course, We've seen Glavine shape Moss and HoRam into good pitchers for the Braves, but once they left him the stunk it up. Blauser has a good baseball mind, and I think Smoltz has alot to offer young guys. The future of the Braves's coaching staff is bright.

TP
I know TP has interviewed in the past, but I can't recall a particular managerial job being offered to him.

KC..
..he's been offered the KC job a couple times, in the last couple of years. I think he was also offered the Marlins gig (before Girardi) and maybe even the Nats gig, though the later I'm not sure about.

smoltz

yeah i totally see him being a great coach on the bench, but according to what he says in his baseball camp in alpharetta he wants to focus on his school King's Ridge when he retires.  But this would be ideal:

Manager: Terry (he has had several offers in the past, but turned them down to stay in Atlanta.  He is the heir apparant)
Bench Coach: Smoltz/Blauser
Hitting: Chipper
Pitching Coach: Maddux
Bullpen: Glavine
3rd Base: Eddie Perez
1st Base: Hubbard/Blauser

That would be sick.  So vintage.  GRanted though, I do agree with the fact that Chipper & crew will take a few years off before coaching.  Maddux though is an ultimate strategist and teacher.  He made the whole rotation better.  He will definitely coach because not only is he those two things, he is also uber competitive.  And anything Mike Maddux can do, Greg can do better.

I Doubt It.
IF, and that's a big if, any of these Hall of Famers decide to coach in the future, it won't be the near future.  Pendleton, Perez, etc... these are the guys that will lead our coaching staff after Cox retires.
