Joe Borchard Should make the Braves roster!

Borchard has been great for the Braves in Spring training with 10 RBI's. I like Brandon Jones but it would not hurt for him to get more seasoning in AAA. People are talkin about trading for Rivera but why when Borchard can do what Rivera would and at the fraction of the cost and we dont have to give up nothing in return, we just pay Borchard for making the team.

The team that most likely would need Thorman the most is probably the New York Yankees. It really makes perfect sense for them to want him. He is a DEAD pull hitter and playing half his games in that short porch in RF he would produce there. Him and Duncan platooning I could see 30-40 HR's between them. But what would we get from the Yankees that we would want? Now that I do not know.

No. No. No.
...Borchard should come no where near the Atlanta Bench unless some sort of weird virus knocks out the entire Braves roster.

He's a life time OPS+ of 65. Add to that being a career .205 hitter. We've got a guy who can put up those kind of numbers and that Scott Thorman. Why add a guy, that is like a guy we'd rather get rid of? Not to mention, ignore!!!!!!!! Spring Training stats, they don't mean a thing and aren't a true gauge of a player period.

Of course I'm sure someones going to tell me that I can shit on his #'s all I want. But man, I saw him in seattle - and ask the Marlins who were more than happy to hit the ejection button on him as soon as they could.

Shit on his numbers...
..wasn't that an exact quote of someone in a previous Borchard arguement?

Well
I never said his career numbers were great but I dont see why he cant be a good fourth outfielder that can play some with Diaz in LF and get a start at First base every now and then when they wanna rest Tex and he can be a bat off the bench. Yes Spring stats dont mean everything but he IS better than Thorman as a bench player for us now and he would help us WAY more than Thorman would.

Borchard
I think Borchard would be worthy of a shot if someone gets injured and he needs to fill in for a while. But I don't think he deserves to start the year on the 25-man given his performance (albeit impressive) in the GFL. His career major league stats indicate he's performing over his head right now.

Borchard should spend some time in AAA and tear up the pitching there first, though. He can request release if he's not in the majors by June 15th.

...very similar
It dawned on me the other night when I saw a sportscenter highlight with the Tigers.

Borchard, Thor, & Mike Hessman are all one in the same.  They are considered AAAA players.

Career Numbers.
Joe has only gotten slightly over a season's worth of AB at the major league level, so it's not like he's been insufferably terrible forever.  I'm not advocating keeping him on the roster, but the possibility is not as ludicrous as some might make it out to be.  He was a fine prospect once upon a time and, believe it or not, there are late bloomers in baseball.  Sure, there's an average prime for a ball player, but there are more than a few cases that fall outside of that range.  He could be a servicable bench bat from here on out.

I can see
the points made for both keeping him up and sending him down.  On the one hand, he is blistering the ball and is athletic.  On the other, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice/three/four/five times.......
Would I be disappointed if they kept him?  No.  Would I lose sleep if they didn't?  No.
I look at his real competition(B Jones, Anderson and MAYBE Blanco) and think he's got a shot.  B Jones is struggling and I know they said he was making solid contact and showing a good approach on tonights telecast, but he could use more seasoning, ie, playing everyday.  So I think he has the leg up on him.  He probably has the leg up on Blanco as well, just because I'm not sure how serious Atlanta's committment to him is.  That leaves Anderson.  If it's my decision, I keep Anderson.  But there could still be a spot for Borchard.  And if that's the case, fine by me.  There are worse things to have than a former 5 tool prospect on your bench.

JOE BORCHARD
I love Joe Borchard. Give him a bench job. At least we know what he's going to do pinch hitting: Thorman might actually get WORSE.
