I think if Frank Wren can't sign Texiera to an extension by then, I would imagine we would trade him. Unless of course they deemed the pennant was in the balance if we lost him, but I would rather trade him for a butt load of higher end prospects or high caliber pitching or something. Yay or nay? Who do you think we could land if that were to be the case. Obviously it would be a large market team. BoSox? Say maybe Clay Bucholz or Jon Lester. Yanks? Phil HUghes or JOba Chamberlain? I would imagine it could potentially be another Santana race.

TEX

Heyward
I would imagine he would shift if Tex doesn't get signed long term. Our next wave of strength is in our outfield (as it has been middle infield in years past), we have great depth there. Cody Johnson is a good player too, but from what I read he's better off in the outfield and Heyward moved to 1st because of his build. But if Tex is signed long term, I would imagine one of these two, I'd rather keep Heyward, wil be traded in a package to bolster the rotation. I bet when the Bravos were mentioned as late players in the Dan Haren trade, Heyward and/or JOhnson's names were in the mix.
Ummm... What?
Jason Heyward is a plus defender in RF and can even play an average CF, so he will likely not be wasted at 1B. Cody Johnson needs to cut down on the strikeouts before he becomes a better prospect, but he's much more likely to make the move to 1B. Salty, by the way, does not have the bat to play that position and it would be a waste of potential and contextual strength to put him there.
I doubt he'll be traded
I agree
Also, the Braves will get a #1 and a sandwich pick for Tex after 2008. That has a lot of value.

it will all depend
on the playoff race. the yanks and redsox may ont want to trade now that they are in the offseason. Injuries/lack of production will dictate this. Tex is a free agen next year, and Im sure a team would rather trade for him midseason and sign him to an extension before bidding wars occur. Giambi is also a FA next season, and surely the Yanks will not bring him back. I would be surprised if they did. I think if we had to trade him (which I hope they dont, and sign him long term) there will be interest and we will get something decent in return.
Rumor Alert
Braves are among five teams interested in Anna, I mean Chris Benson.
Sign Tex Period

this is why I think
major league baseball needs to start figuring out a way to control escalating prices. salary cap anyone?
You're joking right?
The Yankees have an opening at 1B if a platoon can't be worked out, with Giambi and Matsui as DH/bench. And why would they give that much for half a season of Tex when every has heard what a big Don Mattingly fan he was growing up?
A quick look around the league makes me wonder if there are any contenders other than the Yanks in need of a 1B. The Mariners could upgrade Jose Vidro at DH. I suppose the Padres could try Adrian Gonzalez in left. Beyond that you're banking on injuries to create demand.
