Ryan's Comments

si.com has a story about St. Louis pitchers batting 8th in their lineup.  Here is the closing paragraph, quoting Brendan Ryan, who last year hit 9th (ie, behind the pitcher), a number of times:

"Some of the (Braves) got on me, (Brian) McCann and some of the other guys," Ryan said. "You're going to hear that. Hitting after the pitcher you know it comes with the territory. I didn't really care."

Any thoughts as to why he would call out Heap and the Braves?  There HAD to be other cases where it was happening when the Cards played other teams.

friends maybe?
I don't know why Heap was called out but what is the thinking behind that?  Yes Albert get 4 "real" hitters in front of him the 2nd go around but in theory the pitcher spot is going to get out his first AB.  Seems like it does more harm than good.

Our Guys.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Braves were just the most insistant on the matter.  I think we have a playful roster where even our vets post "anonimously" on a blog and lob a couple of unexpected bombs out there.  Catchers in particular are known for having the gift of gab and I'm sure Heap is no exception.  He also had the most opportunity among our guys to talk him up about it when he came to the plate.  I don't think it's a big deal, really.  Maybe we crossed the line with the nature or volume of our comments, but it's all in good fun.  Hell, LaRussa should be mocked for employing a statistically useless and yet psychologically negative strategy.
Come check out my blog 52 Card Pick-up and let me know what you think!

Me Either
I don't think it's a big deal either - heck, I think it's kind of funny. I was just wondering if maybe someone had some sort of information like a past connection between the two, etc.
