This Only Happens to Ex-Braves
I have chronicled in detail the amount of ex-Braves in Washington Nationals camp this spring, but the few that are in the Chicago Cubs camp keep ending up in the hospital. It started on Saturday with Mark DeRosa being hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat. Then on Sunday we got news that another recent ex-Brave was hospitalized after he was roughed up in an attempted robbery:
Ascanio, the reliever acquired from Atlanta in December for Will Ohman, was not seriously injured but suffered bruises and abrasions to the left side of his face.
"He got beat up pretty good last night," manager Lou Piniella said. "He got punched a few times by a guy that was looking for some money. He didn't get robbed. But the guy asked for money and evidently the young man said, 'I don't have any money,' and the guy punched him a few times."
The other former Braves on the Cubs include catcher Henry Blanco, pitcher Jason Marquis, pinch-hitter Daryle Ward, and non-roster invitee, reliever Chad Fox. If one of them gets injured in some bizarre way, then there really is something going on.
