Dixon

Does anyone know what happenned to that Quarterback from Oregon, Dixon (can't remember his first name)?

He was drafted by Atlanta his senior year I think, and he was playing in the summer instructional league; with the intent at one point to pursue a baseball career.  Since he banged up his knee I haven't heard anything about him.

Did Atlanta drop him?

Well
He was projected very late in the NFL Draft if selected at all before the injury.

I guess the Braves still have control of him until the draft in 08 if he decides to come back.

His first name is Dennis...
and the Braves retain control of him because he signed with the team after being drafted.  As a draftee, once you sign, you're on that team until you're eligible for the Rule 5 draft or for six-year minor league free agency.

Back in November, we had The Oregonian asking Dennis Dixon Sr. (Dixon's dad) whether his son would choose baseball or football.  To which Dennis Sr. replied, "My son has a job with the Atlanta Braves."

The tune has changed quite a bit lately though, as Dixon Jr. reported to the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.  When he arrived, he said, "Football is totally my forte right now," Dixon said. "Baseball was, but right now football has my attention. ... Things just changed."  Doesn't sound like he'll be returning to the diamond anytime soon.  I imagine that he'll try to make it in the NFL even if he doesn't get drafted that high.  It sounds like the gridiron is his real passion at this point.

And I also don't think it's that big of a deal.  I know he's a great athlete and all, but as a 22-year-old, he posted a paltry .176/.322/.216 line, mostly in the Gulf Coast League.  It'd be cool if he chose to return to the Braves system, but I think the chance of him ever being a big-league baseball player are few and far between.

Not quite...
I'm not from Oregon at all.  Google is a beautiful thing.
