Corky Miller.
I just thought this little note was kind of ironic:
The Atlanta Braves have signed David Ross as their new backup catcher. He will be paid $3 million in his two year contract. Ross should be an upgrade over backup catcher Corky Miller who hit only .083 last season as the backup for Brian McCann. Miller has signed with the White Sox for some unearthly reason. He had only four singles and a homer in 60 at bats for the Braves last season. I remember watching the Braves games in which Miller came to bat in a clutch situation and knowing he would probably make an out and he usually did.
In 2006 Ross had 21 homers and 52 RBI's in only 247 at bats so he does have some power despite his .222 lifetime batting average.

Not only is it somewhat ironic, but also amusing that Corky signed with the White Sox, who we just got Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan from, but it's amusing in that they actually are considering him at all. Though, it is only a minor league deal they offered him, I had to search to make sure, but still.
The article says "they signed him for his defense" and goes on to say that he's one of the best defensive catchers in the game. To me, really his defense wasn't that great, especially not enough to make up for his complete lack-of-offense. The article also says 2008 was Corky's worst offensive year in his seven in the majors, but then there's this line:
The former Wolf Pack player has a .176 batting average during his seven year MLB career.
Not exactly what I would call worth the risk. I'm glad the Braves finally figured out that Corky wasn't the answer and signed Dave Ross, who should be a lot better overall when McCann takes a day off. Fans won't have to cringe when they see Corky's name in the lineup anymore, thank God.

Bobby just had Corky's back.
I’m sorry but you could have a public tryout and find a better catcher than Corky.

I’ve seen the guy play in a bunch of places since 2001 and I always thought he was a butcher behind the plate. At least he used to be able to his, but his only remaining skill seems to be his Sal Fasano mustache impression.

Oh, how amusing. Too bad the source was some blogger. I would’ve loved to have seen a legit journalist write that line out.
I wish I knew some White Sox fans so I could laugh at them.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
