Braves Officially Announce Vazquez Deal
The deal was officially announced today just before 10am. The Braves are holding a press conference at 11am to introduce Javier Vazquez. There is no change in the players involved from the last report; it's Vazquez and Boone Logan for Tyler Flowers, Brent Lillibridge, Jon Gilmore, and Santos Rodriguez.

I think Vazquez will surprise a lot of people next year
There are much better ways to measure a pitcher’s future performance than with ERA, WHIP, and, certainly,W’s and L’s. I’m fine with ERA (though RA would be a little better) and WHIP measuring actual performance for a year, but you also have to keep in mind that those two stats are a product of the pitcher’s ability, the fielders’ ability, the park, and sometimes luck. Vazquez won’t have a a DH to pitch to, gets a very good defensive infield, and won’t have one of the worst defensive outfields in baseball behind him. Sub 4 ERA for sure and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go as low as 3.5.

Voted win for Braves
I know a lot of people are less than enthused with Vasquez, but what’s done is done, and there are no take-backs. I’m optimistic, because with the departure of Hampton, uncertainty of Smoltz and Glavine, Huddy’s injury, let’s face it – the Braves only had Jair Jurrjens and Jorge Campillo likely slated to start, with guys like James Parr, Jo-Jo Reyes and Charlie Morton to fill the holes. Quite frankly, Vasquez is no ace, but he also shouldn’t be dismissed. And as far as I’m concerned eliminating one of the three mentioned stop-gaps from the rotation with Vasquez is a huge step up.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Innings
If he can consistently go into the 7th inning in games – the relief this provides the bullpen will be more than worth it over guys like Jo-Jo, Morton, etc. who have shown that they can’t go much more than 5.

Hell, if he can consistently get to the 5th inning, he’s already better than Jo-Jo Reyes.

“Yeah, well, that’s just like…your opinion, man.”
I guess I should be one to talk.

There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

Everybody in Chicago is happy Vasquez is gone.
I’ve been talking to some of my buddies up there and they think The Brave Ones got screwed. I disagree though. I bet one guy $10 Vasquez would do better next year than he did in ’08.

Not true ...
I’ve spoken to some Chi Sox fans (ones I trust w/ being informed about the matter) who genuinely believe that “Javy” (as they call him) can be a reliable 2/3 in the NL.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

when the other team is doing cartwheels and backflips after a trade, not because of what they’re getting, but because a player is gone…yeah. thats a loss

ChiSox fans are morons for being happy to be rid of Vazquez. They’re now looking at banking on Clayton Richard and Jose Contreras for sixty starts. Adding guys like Gilmore and Rodriguez (who are 3-4 years away), Lillibridge who isn’t special at all, and Flowers who isn’t special unless he catches isn’t really something to be excited to have over a solid mid-rotation starter.
