Khalil Green to St. Louis

Khalil Green has been traded to St. Louis for two relief pitchers.  This now leaves a hole in their infield.  They have said that they are comfortable with their utility guy in the role although he is a natural second baseman but I think that is a bluff.

Since Green is gone I wonder if they will try to come back to the Braves in an attempt to get Yunel.  If that is their plan they better hurry.  If Burnett takes the supposed 5 year offer the Braves a preparing to give then the Pad's will be out of luck.

towers screwed the pooch

this ones gonna bite towers if the braves sign Burnett he wont have any kind of leverage against the braves at that point. really besides a pitcher with a slight upside who will be a reliever on his best day, what can the cubs offer that would have come any where close to a yunel escobar or Gorkys Hernandez, Blaine Boyer, Jo Jo Reyes trade. towers will be remembered for screwing such a deal up in a year maybe sooner especially when everyone sees how those players mentioned are lighting every one up with home runs speed and dominant pitching. so to towers of San Diego F YOU IN THE A, SCREW YOU, AND UP YOURS BUDDY WE DON’T WANT YOUR BUSINESS AND ENJOY LOSING FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS BECAUSE OF YOUR GREED

we still might talk but he has lost his leverage. Third team needs to get involved at this point or Towers just will have to settle for less.

Peavy
Burnett
Vazquez
JJ
Campillo

Would be very Nice if Wren can swing it.

Peavy
Hudson
Burnett
JJ
Vazquez- would be beautiful in 2010. Very long shot but heres to wishful thinking.

that would be something like 55-60 million tied up in 4 pitchers. thats more than half our payroll.

Yeah...

Pitchers are traditionally the Braves strong point, and since we can’t seem to raise our own talent, you have to spend to get there.

by someguy917 on Dec 4, 2008 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

why cant we raise our own talent… isnt that what we did… dont we havea top 5 farm system… dont we have =multiple P in our system who could impact our rotation and bullpen…i think we are rasing our own Pitchers just fine…

Nothing would be better than being able to say yeah, that guy got all the way through our system and is now a powerful force in our rotation, but that hasn’t happened since 1988. Hopefully, Hanson will change that.

by someguy917 on Dec 5, 2008 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

I hope we don't rush Hanson next year.

I also still have some faith in Morton if we don’t trade him.

by Charmin519 on Dec 5, 2008 2:04 AM EST up reply actions

Kevin Millwood was a pretty powerful force in the rotation.

by cbwilk on Dec 5, 2008 2:41 AM EST up reply actions

I’ll give you Millwood, but 5 good pitchers in 20 years is not what I would have expected.

by someguy917 on Dec 5, 2008 11:21 AM EST up reply actions

And that's how you make a true two year run for it all before you bring up the babies.

You gotta spend money to make money. Vazquez, Hudson, and Chipper (he’ll be around in2010) contracts would be up. You sold tickets for two years and now your prospects have been given plenty of time to develop. You drop the three mentioned like their plague ridden and start the process all over again. Depending on how much our OF trade cost this is plausible and I’m sure their’s ways to get creative. It’s obviously a long shot but here’s to Wren making it happen.

by Charmin519 on Dec 4, 2008 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

LOL at not re-signing hudson and chipper. what are you, crazy?

by bigjoe on Dec 4, 2008 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think we need them after 2010

Hopefully our farm system starts to pan out by then. Might need to go out of the system to replace Chipper.

by Charmin519 on Dec 4, 2008 11:53 PM EST up reply actions

i think we’ve debated this ad nauseum… we dont need to replace Chipper… he is a friggin legacy… and no it doesnt make sense baseball-wise and business-wise, but he wont be let go.. he will give us the hometown discount as he has in teh past we will sign him after 2010 and he will most likely either play 3B or maybe 1B.. but he will bea substantial part of the team until he feels its time to hang it up… and i as a fan wish this was a more common thing. (uh oh a rant is coming)

Fans complain about players not being loyal to their team and their fans… i wonder why… maybe becuase fans treat their teams players as pawns to their own happiness. What happened to treating players on your team like a friggin God… someone who was revered and respected. Players like Chipper Jones should be treated like royalty. If he wants the braves to put him in the Bullpen so he can close games, i say Fuck it lets see hwo good he is as a pitcher. Fans complaing about loyalty from players but forgot that their loyalty to players has all but vanished. people talk about trading or releasing Chipper and Smoltz. what kind of message does that send to other players. who have only been on a team for 5 years, instead of 16 or w.e. Those players look at it like these fans dont give a shit about me they just want to win. so i mine as well get the best deal i can cause all i am to them is an instrument to thier happiness. That is why players leave and take the big contract instead of staying with the franchise that brought them to the majors. Sports is supposed to be fun, its not supposed to be a business for fans, we arent supposed to be logical… we are supposed to support our guys with blind ignorance. Unfortunately we figured out how to evaluate players… and now everyone thinks they are a GM… and they think they have the answer to their teams problems..

ok im done… FUCK wheres my bottle of whiskey

by Swo12bv on Dec 5, 2008 12:24 AM EST up reply actions

I was thinking he might consider hanging it up

in two years. Of course, if chipper wanted to play he would play. We probably won’t need him after 2010 because usually when it goes it goes quickly. However, your absolutely right. If he couldn’t walk we would provided a walker and the fans would love him even more. Chipper is my favorite player and has been since the farm days. I watched him in Macon and Richmond at SS.

My comment “drop them like their plague ridden” was to much. It was under the assumption that Chipper WANTED to leave and Hudson would look for a better option on the FA kinda like Ohman this year. Chipper is a GOD.

I understand your analogy and it’s correct. I need to be more precise with my words.

Why do we care that Khalil Greene was traded?

The talks with Padres are dead, if they come back to us they should not be offered Yunel, so we would have no use for Khalil. Why do we care?

by scottyboy10 on Dec 4, 2008 8:31 PM EST reply actions

Well for one.

We were gonna try to get Ludwick or Ankiel from them as our LF, but if they have Khalil Greene, they won;t need Kelly Johnson, so our most available trading chip just became worthless to them.

by someguy917 on Dec 4, 2008 11:11 PM EST up reply actions

Khalil is SS, KJ is 2B

The Cards need both. So I don’t see how that works. Is Khalil going to play SS and 2B now?

Before the trade, they had Cesar Izturis and Adam Kennedy at SS and 2B, respectively. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think that is good enough to contend. They need new 2B and SS, which they now have ONE with Greene.

by scottyboy10 on Dec 6, 2008 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

the contended last year with izturis and kennedy… and a patchwork pitching staff what makes u think they cant compete this year with a healthy staff

"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."

by Swo12bv on Dec 6, 2008 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not saying it will be impossible to contend

but with KJ their chances would be better. True, Kelly did lose some value with the Cards, but not all of it. They have Duncan, Ankiel, Ludwick, Shumaker, and Colby Rasmus in the OF. I’m sure they would rather have 4 major league outfielders and a good 2B than five major league outfielders and a below average 2B. And that is assuming they will be healthy. You don’t know that they will be. We were expected to compete for a WS ring, but we got a ton of injuries. Did anyone see that coming? Carpenter has had quite a few injuries the past few years, and after Wainwright they don’t really have anybody.

I’m not saying you are totally wrong, I just don’t agree with you that KJ has NO value with the Cards now.
