The Braves Interest in Adam Dunn Shot Down
Mark Bowman, who's been good at clarifying rumors lately, has this latest clarification:
Contrary to a FOXSports.com report, the Braves aren't among the teams interested in Adam Dunn. The Web site reported Wednesday that the Braves, Mariners and Nationals are among the teams showing interest in the free-agent outfielder.
The Braves are seeking a right-handed (Dunn bats from the left side) outfielder that they can place between Chipper Jones (a switch hitter) and Brian McCann (a left-handed hitter) in the middle of their lineup.
I've been saying this every time Adam Dunn is brough up on this board. I do like his power numbers and on-base numbers, but the Braves have said repeatedly that they want a right-handed power bat.

That sounds more like speculation on Bowman – no quotes or anything. In Frank Wren’s chat, he said it would be ideal if the OF power bat was right handed, but he wouldn’t mind a left hander since Kotchman, Johnson, and McCann hit lefties well.

Dunn doesn't hit lefties well, though
Under .200, although he still hits them for power. Ten of his HR came off lefties, vs. 30 vs. RHP. He’s a defensive liability, too. I’d see what we can do to pry Maggs away from Detroit; that team is a mess and they need to dump salary.
In a more spectacular mode, I’d try to put together a package for Carlos Lee and Roy Oswalt. Houston isn’t going anywhere and their system is empty. We’d have to give up a lot, though. It would take guts to pull THAT trigger.

Adam Dunn doesn’t hit anyone for average, and everyone for power. Sounds like what your saying is that we should sell the farm to try and win a World Series next season. While I’m an optimist, and a new season gives everyone a shot, we need to hang on to as much youth as we can and plan for the future… I’m already a little upset that we had to give up Flowers.

His career OPS against LH is .773 which is much better than the .682 we got from the position last year.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

Don't get me wrong
I want Dunn in a Braves uniform. Strikouts on sub .250 batting average be damned

I think he’s just speculating. For the right price, I’m sure Wren would put up with a lefty for a guy that is a near-lock for 40 homers, 100 RBIs a year.

If you really want to follow Sabernomics
I don’t see how an elite power LH hitter is significantly inferior to a comparable RH hitter (none of whom are on the market). This RH requirement seems more arbitrary than it is based on statistics.
OT: When will people appreciate OBP, I still want Brian Giles. I like Dave Ross, too, that was a nice pickup.

Statistically, some left handed batters are worse against left handed pitching. Our lineup has a lot of left handers in it and a lot of our prospects coming up are left handed. With our division rivals having multiple left handed aces or at least starting pitchers, it would be ideal to get a right hander combat them with; not too mention going righty-lefty-righty-lefty can eat up a bullpen or get a mismatch in the batters favor. However, our left handed batters aren’t that bad against left handed pitching, something Wren addressed so I don’t know why Bowman is saying that. Getting a right handed bat would just help a little extra, but probably isn’t necessary.

I think our interest in Dunn just went up.
With Khalil Greene headed to St. Louis, I doubt they are going to want Kelly Johnson, which takes Ludwick and Ankiel off the list, unless they want someone else we haven’t heard about.

Dunn vs. Pisshands
I hope to Pujols that Dunn being a lefty is not the only reason why he is not pursued.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

dunn is definitely going to rebound, considering his BABIP was ridiculously low at .262. his LD% was 2% under his career average too.
