Where Are Our Moves?
Everyone seems to be making moves but us. I'm getting tired of not hearing anything since the Rafael Furcal drama. Wren needs to wake up and go after pitching before its all gone. There's a fellow named Ben Sheets still available and that icon of our franchise named John Smoltz. Sign them two now. I think the hitting is a lost cause but our pitching can still be saved. Dunn is apparently heading to LA. The lack of moves is ridiculous. Oh and guys I heard the Mets are going after Andruw Jones. Seems like someone took my idea. lol.

Not that many teams are making moves, there’s a standstill going on – players aren’t paying attention to the economy. The Braves said they aren’t going to publicly announce who they are going after anymore after Furgate (SeewhatIdidthere?). Ben Sheets has huge red flags in his medical history – everyone knows how good Sheets is, but he’s apparently on the verge of a huge injury. Wren said he’ll sign Smoltz when he proves he can still compete at a Major League level – which will be later in his rehab. Hitting is not a lost cause. LA expressed interest – I express interest in Megan Fox twice a day and I’m not getting her. Dunn is lefthanded, we need a righthander, and his horrible defense negates his boner-inducing walks. Patience young padawan.

Let's Play A Game...
“Everyone seems to be making moves but us”. Name the all those teams making moves while we stand still. Having a hard time getting past two or three? That’s because with all due respect, you and your kind are jackasses. Sure, I want my team to sign Sheets and Dunn, but I don’t go around running circles yelling at whoever I run into that the sky is falling. I am sick and tired of your irrational nonsense (not just you, because you share the blame with plenty of other idiots) and I hope that others are as fed up as I am. As many beers as I’ve had today, I’m not drunk enough to put up with this bitching and moaning.

I gotta disagree. I got pretty nervous when I saw that the Orioles signed Mark Hendrickson and the Blue Jays signed Michael Barrett (to a minor league deal!). I mean, they’re out there making moves, why can’t the Braves be?

Chill Out
First off, I’m a fan like you are and far from a jackass, dickhead. I never said Wren is worthless, I just said he needs to wake up and focus stuff still available. How many of us have been asking for Sheets and Dunn besides me? So don’t just be hating on me. Wren doesn’t want to trade our prospects, that’s fine, but he does have to make moves to improve our team. I’m fed up from not having anyone besides Chipper Jones. So if you like having crap around an allstar that’s fine. You’ll need the beers.
by mrrich95 on Dec 29, 2008 7:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
And what evidence, exactly, do you possess that Frank Wren is sleeping and not focused? Seriously, answer the question: go read the transactions wire, and enlighten us as to exactly what moves have been made since Furcal signed. Who have we missed out on? If you’re seriously worried about Mark Hendrickson and Brad Penny and Michael Barrett signing, then you need your head examined. Maybe Wren is intelligently waiting. The longer he waits, the softer the market gets, and as long as the market doesn’t all move without him (and it’s not moving right now), he’s going to be in a great position. But no, that probably never occurred to you.
I also love how you say “How many of us have been asking for Sheets and Dunn besides me?” as if us fans are somehow entitled to get the players we want. Guess what, brainiac? The front office has a hell of a lot more information than we do, and they have said they are unlikely to pursue either of those players. Just because you don’t like that decision does not make it wrong.
by tgthree on Dec 30, 2008 11:38 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually I can’t resist posting the list of transactions since Furcal signed on December 19th.
December 20th: nothing
December 21st: Rays sold Dan Johnson to Japanese team; Nationals signed Daniel Cabrera.
December 22nd: Yankees re-signed Chien-Ming Wang (just settling an arbitration case early).
December 23rd: Mariners re-signed Jamie Burke.
December 24th: nothing
December 25th: Twins signed R.A. Dickey.
December 26th: Giants signed Randy Johnson.
December 27th: Reds signed Willy Taveras.
December 28th: nothing
So, really, what is it that Frank Wren is missing out on?

Agreed on all points
If the worst-case scenario happens – no one else of note is signed/traded for – is it really that bad? 2009 would be a little ugly in the W/L department, but it would be pretty cool to watch guys like Hanson, Medlen, Morton, Reyes, Schafer, et al get plenty of playing time at the ML level. There’s enough pitching at the AA-AAA levels to make 2010 and beyond look very promising.
As for the sky falling, I don’t know how old you are, but I’m assuming you and most everyone else on this blog is going to be alive a few years from now (I’m 31, so I’m hoping to live another 50-60 years). What the hell ever happened to patience? Do we honestly think that in our lifetimes there won’t be periods of boom and bust? Look at the Pirates – they’ve been in bust mode for fifteen years with no end in sight. I can handle another 1-2 poor seasons as long as a foundation is being built for another decade of success.

Jesus Christ....
…would everyone SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT US NOT MAKING ANY MOVES! Hell, we’ve made more moves than most teams have, albeit small ones. Traded for: Javier Vazquez, Boone Logan. Signed: Eric O’Flarety, David Ross, Greg Norton. Tell me one other team that has added five players this offseason. Sure, they’re not big moves, but the front office is actually doing something. I mean seriously guys, this whole “why aren’t we doing anything” and the “Wren is worthless” bullshit is getting old. If you (not just you, but in general) want to bitch about this, go to someone who gives a damn.

Another reason for the lack of activity....
Is the fact the MLB Front Offices are actually closed until the 5th of January in part to the celebration of Christmas and the New Year, so right now all you will really read about is pure speculation. Sure, you get a few signings here and there (Brad Penny, Barret), but as far as trades and the big signings that remain go, they are not likely to happen until the middle of january. If you can just hold your patience ofr about 10 more days, there will be so much action in such a short amount of time that you can get pissed because you cannot keep up with it all. Just chill out, and also realize that with the new year comes some nice after christmas bargains for those patient teams.

That was the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Brenden Fraser was unwatchable. And his hitting stance and pitching motion were ridiculous, I don’t think he can throw a baseball in real life.

It's so funny when you see actors that obviously were coached to just understand the fundamentals of throwing a ball. How does a man not know how to throw a ball. I mean honestly at some point in your childhood you had to at least thrown something.

Heyward will not see any Major League at bats this year. He has never played above high A-ball and is currently 19 years old. There is no way that the Braves would ever stunt his development by rushing him up so soon he is more likely than not 2 years away.

Notice...
Juan Rivera is the only LF to sign with anyone yet and there still hasn’t been so much as a whisper about Dunn or Burrell as anything more than back-up options. That odd silence is only magnified with Sheets. If we can snag Adam/Pat and Ben at discounted prices later this offseason, then this offseason will be a success in my book. In fact, if success is still possible, then why are we bitching about anything?
Did you want Burnett at 5/$82.5M? How about Sabathia or Tex at 7/$161M or 8/$180M respectively? Or are you just concerned about junk heap starters like Johnson and Penny being gobbled up because you saw them as our aces in 2009? Perhaps you’re upset that we missed out on giving Juan Rivera 3/$12.5M? Oh, I know! You’re mad that we didn’t get a different back-up catcher, Mark Hendrickson, Wily Taveras, etc. Seriously, I just don’t get the point.

In the off-season we are just supposed to sit on our ass, and there is nothing wrong with that seeing as it has been working for us. (Not recently but throughout the 90’s) You have to remember while the Mets and Yankess are trading for talent, we already have talent, it’s just in the farm right now growing and developing.
Just chill out, hang on for one more miserable year and it will all pay off in 2010.
