Sammy Sosa?
What do you guys think about Sammy Sosa? You think he could be worth a look at for one year? I bet you can sign him a league minimum and anything he produces is a bonus. In 2007 he had 21 homers in 412 at bats. I read he's waiting for any offer. We could use a name like him. He would bring people to the games and who knows what he can do. Platoon Sosa, Norton, and Diaz for left? Not a bad idea to me.
Escobar, Johnson, Jones, Sosa, McCann wouldn't be a bad line up.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I usually am not one to throw insults, but I am pretty sure that you have a very hard time turning your “not-a-bad-idea” thoughts into reality. Dude, plz understand, this so called proposal would have no way in hades of ever becoming a reality, much less working. Give me a break.

Always Negative
You guys amaze me at ttmes. Always so negative. You wouldn’t want Sammy but would get excited about Greg Norton or some dude name Kawakami that has nothing to offer. Give me Sosa’s name value over those two and that’s more profit for us. You’re telling me people wouldn’t go to games to still see Sammy hit one out? I’d watch Sammy over Frenchy, Diaz, and Anderson right now. Our OF is horrible. I’d rather pay league minimum for Sammy than cough up 35 mill for some japanese guy that may or may not deliver just to lure back John Smoltz. I’m not saying start Sammy every game. He’d be a good mentor for Diaz and even Frenchy.

A good mentor?
Really? The Braves don’t sign controversial douches. If they wanted to there’s much better players with the same baggage available. Heck, the current outfield is better than Sosa.
Also, you contradicted yourself when you called everyone “so negative” and then said we’d “get excited” about other players.

this could work, wont bet on it tho
what do you have to lose? sign him to a 1-2, maybe 3 mil year deal, you got nothing to lose if he sucks, and hey if he blast 20+ homeruns thats awesome! platoon him with Diaz/Anderson/Blanco and that could work. i would much prefer a guy in there all the time who we could count on but this COULD work

Sosa over a full season would project out to somewhere around a .225 batting average, .300 On base % and15 HR. Maybe(I think I’m being pretty generous actually). How is that an improvement over what we have now? And for “1-2, maybe 3 mil year”? Because he could mash back in the 90’s when he was juicing? Janet Jackson summed up what’s important in baseball with “What have you done for me lately?” Sosa ain’t done jack in over 3 years. The Braves days of chasing old retreads like Ken Caminetti and Vinny Castilla are over. We have to win with home grown talent, trades or free agents signed in their prime(or a lot closer to their prime than what Sosa is.)

Nothing to lose
really if we give him a 1-3 mil one year deal that would get him, no one else is looking for him, there is nothing to lose if you sign him, and i wouldn’t mind seeing him play.
but i really doubt the Braves will sign him

we would lose a roster spot, and those are pretty valuable

we wasted one on porky corky last year, so maybe not so much

touche – though maybe having someone take the pressure off McCann every five days (even if they were a statistical black hole) might be worth a roster spot.
If C Miller was a statistical black hole would that make Albert Pujols a statistical Big Bang?
by yondaime4 on Dec 28, 2008 12:01 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
is the big bang the opposite of a balck hole… i think a Super Nova would be the opposite. or maybe not w.e

the opposite of a black hole is actually called a white hole, which the big bang is an example of
