Go Get Jake Peavy!!!
i understand we are in a rebuilding year and im not sayin go trade hanson or heyward or somethin but the guy is easily a top 5 pitcher or better he has amazing stuff and is still young bobby cox can get the most out of him and we absolutely need an ase
keys to getting peavy, escobar, mortan, schafer (or hernandez) and a lesser prospect would be a great deal think bout it u can go sign orlando caberera who is always solid heyward francouer (who will have a bounce back year) and blanco/diaz/schafer/hernadez (which ever one we dont trade would be our outfield anyway
last but not least like i said 2009 is a building year so right it off and look at 2010 rotation would look like this Peavy, Hanson, Jurrjens, Hudson, Vasquez order that how u want but that is absolutely nasty

Your grammar is impeccable.

- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
Yes!
Let’s trade away
1. Our CF of the future
2. One of the top five most valuable (trade value folks) SSs in the game
3. One of our best up-and-coming starters
FOR …
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAVY! The answer to all our problems.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."
- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
Are you talking about Julio Escobar?
‘cause I’m talking about Yunel.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

you mean ...
He was out?
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."
- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
thats what i meant and ya im def talking bout yunel and if ur thinkin charlie (career era of 6) mortan is our best upcoming starter then we got huge problems there buddy
Note: I said "one of" our best up-and-coming starters
Oh, and I ain’t ya buddy. Homie.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

This guy is making it too easy for the veteran posters around here.
I kinda think he's faking it
That, or he’s retarded.

our franky wren what do u propose they do after been stabbed in the back 3 times this offseason what u gonna do to bring fans to the stands……peavy will do that
Dammit, I think I’ve misunderstood the point of baseball my entire life. See I have always thought that the goal was to win world series’. Apparently I should have been wishing we could just be marginally above average so that every 5th day there will be 35,000 people at the Ted. The real fans will continue to show up and those of us who want to see this team win could give a shit less about what brings the fair weather fans to the ballpark.
Naw
But for real. Too much to give up. Maybe if Towers takes KJ, Gorkys, Jo Jo and Van Freakin’ Pope. Then I’m good with it.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

peavy has the best stuff in the league though…..next to tim L

Ahhh
Spell check, please.
Also, do we really have to go around in circles every time some idiot figures out Talking Chop is open to the public?
I mean, some people just don’t have 2 brain cells to rub together. Why do we even talk to them?
You’re only making it worse by giving him a chance to respond. If you ignore it, it goes away.
OMFG
Forget about the fucking grammer you can’t just sit around and wait for shit to happen if you want something you have to make it happen yourself!

Why would I forget about the, “fucking grammar?”
When you use poor grammar, you seem uneducated and uninformed. Then you go screaming about how no one takes you seriously or mocks you. Never mind your insane argument, it wouldn’t matter what you were arguing if no one can even decipher what it is you have to say.
Though, I’d argue that your premise is ridiculous, just not as ridiculous as your grammar.
Alright what is ridiculous about my premise?

gotya....
because ERA is the most accurate/useful way to measure the effectiveness of a pitcher! RIIIIIGGGGHHHTTTTT!!!!!!
“yipes…just yipes?
do you think they’re cognizant of how baaaaaaaad they’ve got it?”
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
Does using big words make you feel important like seriously who says cognizant???
Any normal person would say do you think they’re aware of how baaaaaaaad they’ve got it? but no not you, you have to go and use fancy words to feel good and/or important about yourself

I just don’t understand why you people don’t use everyday vocabulary

A good example would be how Daisuke’s season last year was horribly overrated because of his W/L record and his ERA.

You mean the guy who threw a pathetic number of innings, who walked a ton of guys and whose strikeout totals plunged?
His K/9 were pretty bad, and his BB/9 went through the roof. His pitch counts were up and the only thing he really improved on was his HR rate. A laudable task, but people figured out just not swinging is better against Dice-K, so it makes sense that he gave up fewer HRs.
And, Professor Douche? That’s the best you have? This is going to be a long year.
ya your right i much rather have a guy go 7 inn 6 runs then a guy go 5 inn 0 runs do u use any logic when you speak like at all

You shouldn’t judge how good a pitcher is by wins and losses…how do you not understand that? Way too many other people factor into the equation. Villarreal went 9-1 for us one year, but did he earn those wins? Fuck no.
Daisuke’s BABIP against was .260 which is really, really low. I’d be willing to bet serious money that there’s no way in hell his ERA will be below 3.00 this coming season.
I guess I should be one to talk.

I understand what your saying about earning wins the best example i think of is 07’ jeff francis but he has the era to back those wins up
If your averaging less then 3 runs per 9 inn you deserve the wins who cares what his BABIP is
by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 2:21 PM EST up reply actions
The reason he only averaged those three runs is because of his BABIP…dismissing that is ignorant.

Lester is sooooooooooooo overrated its not funny
by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 3:27 PM EST up reply actions
lester threw more innings, had a lower WHIP, had a better K/BB, a better HR/9, and a better FIP. FAIL
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
bfd winning is all that matters in baseball and dice k did that more times then lester both had very gd era’s so this isnt a jeff francis senario
by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 6:10 PM EST up reply actions
Once again, Daisuke had more wins but most of the time there were at least 2 other pitchers helping him close the game out…and that doesn’t even factor in the offensive aspect.
If the Sox bullpen had blown 6 of Daisuke’s leads would we still be having this conversation?
I guess I should be one to talk.

Justin Verlander or Joe Saunders
Verlander had a better k/bb ratio threw more innings and had a better p/gs ratio
but saunders had much more wins and a better era by alot so all your stupid ratio stats are dumb as hell

by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 8:01 PM EST up reply actions
what? u mean please tell
if a guy walked or gave of hits til the bases were loaded every single inning but then managed to get out of it w/o any runs would you be happy
by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 8:19 PM EST up reply actions
if that happened, his WHIP would be 3.00. and hey dude, look at dice-K’s whip…higher than lester’s. which means he allowed more runners to get on base. and in most cases, he’d get pulled and the bullpen would get out of the jam, whereas lester would stay in the game and get himself out of it, sometimes allowing a run in the process.
is this really so complicated?
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
doesn’t matter how the job gets done as long as somebody does it
i rather have multiple guys give up 2 runs a game then one guy stay in and give up 3 or
And that was my point exactly 3 is a terrible whip but if he got out of the jam every inning without giving up a run then thats a great outting
by ATLsportsfrk on Dec 27, 2008 9:48 PM EST up reply actions
7.5 million per year
One time
Can’t argue with that but Turner Field isn’t like a huge hitters park either
He said he would wave it
Anything else
Overpaying in prospects
Concern for future injuries (see elbow issues and throwing motion)
Petco is still Petco.
He wants full no-trade rights if he’s traded, not to mention a probably extension.
Get informed.
I'm glad someone brought it up
Have you SEEN Peavy’s motion? Yes he has sick stuff, but his throwing motion SCREAMS Tommy John in about a year. I’m not going to mortgage the farm just so I can get a guy (remember this was I believe a 4 or 5 for ONE deal).
$7.5M a year? We’re taking about Jake Peavy right? That’s $11M, $15M, $16M, $17M, and $22M. And way too much in prospects.
Turner Field is average to slight pitcher friendly. Petco is probably the most pitcher friendly park in baseball.
Peavy's Contract
Signed three-year, $52 million extension w/2013 club option and limited NTC.

…please have your pets spayed or neutered folks.
As long as we don’t give up Heyward or Hanson not really
There is a chance anybody in baseball CAN get hurt
This is true
Ya god forbid we resign a top 5 pitcher in baseball
5 of you have made 36 posts in an hour and a half beating a dead horse when a football game between 2 top 12 teams is on. i’m very disappointed in you all.
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
I believe Northwestern could beat both of those teams and I don't think Northwestern is a top 35 team. But there close.
you’re drunk.
first off, both of those teams could beat most of the lower level BCS conference teams. TCU’s 2 losses are both to teams in BCS games. boise hasn’t lost.
of northwestern’s 3 losses, 2 were to teams ahead of them in the standings, and the other one happened because the QB & RB both got hurt and the team collapsed.
if we were playing south carolina instead of iowa, we’d win by 20. but missouri? yuck. its gonna take some major fun to beat them.
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
Boise Blows ass. The finally played a real defense and they were exposed.
You sell your northwestern team short. You guys could beat both TCU and Boise State. Mizzpoo isn’t shit. If you guys have a good scheme you should get the upset.
As a fellow Big Tenian i was dissapointed to see NW lose… i didnt think u had a chance coming into the game but u shut down MIzzou’s offense and realy gave them a run for their money… i wish i had that much positive stuff to say about Wisc
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
holy fucking shit, i just noticed that he has heyward, hernandez AND hanson starting this season. JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUS!
you shouldn’t be drinking eggnog on the 23rd

Brave Fan turned Yankee
Every player I wanted on the Braves have gone to the Yankees. I knew CC was a long shot but Burnett left and so did Texiera. It just sucks I am not going to lie. Peavy? I would to get him but he doesnt want to come to ATL, lets face it. He rather stay in San Diego where its hot all year around and go to See World with his kids. This offseason has been the worst off season in the history of the Braves.
We always complain that we never have the money to spend but what we forget to realize is no one wants to play ATL. I say give Furcal’s money to Orlando Hudson who’s from South Carolina. Trade KJ for a LF power bat like Carlos Lee or Maggalio and sign Garland and Wolf. Not what I like but we have no options! Garland, Javier, Wolf, Jurregns, Campillo… Escobar, Shafer, Jones, Carlos Lee or Mag, McCann, Jeff, Kotchman, Prado, pitcher
Dude Peavy is from Alabama we did want to come to ATL it is just when he found out escobar was going to be in the deal for him he decided that would make the braves bad so he changed his mind

You know
People say, “Don’t feed the trolls,” but this has been the most entertaining thread in a long time.
See World indeed.
Peavy
I felt like I had to relabel it because 90% of this post is just arguing. ATL getting Peavy is not a terrible idea but we are the Braves and that’s not what we do. We have a great farm and we don’t want to throw it away.
