The Atlanta Braves Best of 2008
Pujols almighty, there's a lot of animosity around here sometimes. Name calling, personal attacks, endless arguments, and bigjoe, whatever that means.
I'd laugh if I were to be considered a peace-maker of any sort, but getting into the holiday spirit, I would like to merely suggest a putting down of the e-dukes, and letting all of your asshole fingers to take a break for a moment. The main Americaland holidays are upon us, and the year is coming to an end, so relax for a second, and click something instead.
That being said, 2008 was a trying, exasperating, tragic, and overall disappointing year for the Braves and its fans, but let's not ignore the fact that like in every season, good or bad, there are always a couple of awesome moments that stand out from the rest.
So, what I would like to know from you folks, what did you enjoy the most this past season? I put a list together to choose from, but if you liked something that's not up here, feel free to comment it, or share your memory, good time. Hell, if it's good enough, I'll actually go back and add it to the list - it's a slow day here in my mom's basement at work, so I might actually do it.

So so many to choose from,
but my favorite has to have been game #162. Cause this past season was just compoundable misery.
Heap’s triple was probably the funniest thing all season. Chipper’s reaction was priceless.
But I had to pick The Bearded One’s 3,000th strikeout. Really made me take a step back and reflect on how amazing it’s been to watch him throughout his career.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.
If he were literally Smoltz’s Beard, he’d have to be a woman, and Smoltz would have to be pretending to be heterosexual – scientifically speaking, of course. So, I’m sure that the name is only figurative.
r u calling smoltz gay (not that theres anything wrong with that)… by saying “Smoltz would have to be pretending to beheterosexual”
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
Chipper's 400th and Smoltz's 3000th
were just awesome. But on a personal lever getting to go to Turner Field for the first time (I live in Pennsylvania) was probably the coolest thing I have done so far. It was incredible.
Good for you. I hope to get there eventually!

true toss up
It was gut wrenching trying to figure out if it was cooler to see Beardo’s 300th or Chip’s 400th, so in the end I also went with comedy and picked Wheelin’ Heap.
Man i thought either his ankles would straight snap off or third base was going to end up three feet underground.
I can’t remember if it was this year or last but my funniest moment came from our man in the booth. Clearly disgusted and referring to our beloved Braves giving up several runs in the inning without recording an out, Caray finished off describing a play with “… and the bases are now loaded …. and I wished I was!”
I forgot to mention that Charlie Morton’s first start was probably my favorite moment of the season. I’ve known him pretty much since he joined the organization and he’s had a pretty trying time over the years. I was very glad that I got to see him here in Norfolk the week before he got called up and tell him how proud I was of how far he’d come as a player. I love the minor leagues and seeing a guy make his debut is always fun, but I haven’t been that excited about a guy coming up since my pal Mike Cather back in 97.
I voted for Smoltz
My whole family was around watching that game that night on tv, and we all got excited and kind of ‘shared the moment.’ Nice memory, and Smoltz has always been my favorite Brave.
Mac’s triple, however, is almost a too-close-to-call 2nd.
More options
For you sarcastic ones.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
i voted for ohman, because it is something i actually have remembered the entire season.
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
I'm sure...
we’ll see more pitchers get 3,000 strikeouts, but we may never again see anyone with McCann’s (lack of) speed get a triple!
Really?
Did you know there are only four active pitchers who have eclipsed the 2000K mark? That would be Jamie Moyer, Tom Glavine, Javier Vazquez and Andy Pettitte (Mussina would make 5 had he not retired). The problem is most of these pitchers are not close enough to 3000K to make it before they retire.
Mike Mussina – 2813
Tom Glavine – 2607
Jamie Moyer – 2248
Javier Vazquez – 2015
Andy Petttite – 2002
Also, there are only 15 players in the history of major league baseball to make it to 3000K. There are a small handful of players in the 1 to 2 thousand range but only three realistically have a chance. Johan Santana, Javier Vazquez and CC Sabathia. At age 29 Santana has racked up 1587 K’s and Vazquez at age 31 has 2015, both pitchers will have to pitch well into their late 30’s early 40’s to get there. CC Sabathia is probably a better bet than Santana to make it, considering JS dimishing strikeout totals, but he’s only recorded 1393 through age 27 so he’s a long, long way off.
On the flip side did you know that “Big Daddy” Cecil Fielder hit 7 trips during his career. His son already has 5. Other notables:
Frank Thomas – 12 for his career (1 last year with Oakland)
Bengie Molina – “THE” slowest man in baseball has 4 in his career
More
Ernie Lombardo, supposedly the slowest player EVER, hit 27 triples in his career. This might be slightly off topic but Boog Powell actually hit 2 in the park home-runs in a single game. He also averaged 11 trips over his career.
So, in short, there is probably a better chance of Harmon Killebrew attempting a sacrifice before we see another pitcher eclipse 3000K.
/facepalm

+1
A couple years ago, the dude who played the Red Ranger was working at Logan’s as a bartender where I live.

My friends said “The Red Ranger has developed a horrible coke addiction and is now slinging suds at Logans”…how am I not supposed to go and see him in person?
(dramatization, may not have happened)

I think i remember reading somewhere about how he attended Woodson when he was in high school. Allegedly, he was also in some questionable movie selections involving relations of the similar sex.
I wonder if he still works at that Logan’s. We should go over there and throw peanut shells at him and badger him about his adult film career.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Haha, I never heard about his film exploits. I havn’t been to that Logan’s in years, couldn’t tell you if he’s still there. But I’m always down for some heckling.
