Pitching and OF help ideas????
What do people think of possibly offering Manny a contract if no one else offers him a huge one soon. We have over 40 million to spend and we havent gotten the pitchers we wanted. I say, offer Sheets a contract, sign Smoltz, and see if we can get Manny for possibly 2 years. He did say if he doesnt get any offers, he will retire although that is highly unlikely. I say we bring up Hanson too and put him in the rotation. He has been dominating and I think it is time.
Sheets,Smoltz, Vasquez, Jurrjens, Hanson
What a great lineup we would have with Manny in the 4 spot between Chipper and McCann!!!

I suggested Manny a couple of weeks back and braves nation did not take to it to kindly, but he is really expensive and you have to worry about how he will act in a market such as atlanta. He is a great hitter but he does have the wrong attitude for Cox. I just dont see it happening as bad as i would love to see him wearing an A hat.

Well we all know Cox wouldnt think twice about pulling Manny out of a game if he acts stupid as he has done with Andruw for being lazy. If we cannot get the pitching we need, I say go for Manny and secure the power bat that our lineup is lacking.

Get Peavy and Manny
The two players Frank has coveted have failed. Peavy now Burnett. The Mets are getting better by adding a closer and set up men, Phillies signed Ibanez( Not impressed). I am sick and tired of waiting for things to happen. First Peavy, now Burnet>.To make Braves fan feel better and for the sake of the team I think what we need is out there. Piching and and a big bat.

Get Peavy and Manny. I
if we have the money to throw at Burnett, throw it at a player that has been consistent for over 7years. Did you not watch how singlehandley he took the Dodgers to the postseason? Its obvious tthe Braves have a better lineup then the Dodgers but if you put his bat between Chipper and Mccann, thats the best lineup in the NL.
Its well aware that we need Jake Peavy. I dont think there’s another ace thats out there. And No Derek Lowe is not one of them..

Singlehandedly?
Andre Ethier, Derek Lowe, and Hiroki Kuroda would like to have a word with you. Lowe gave up 2 runs in 30 innings in September/October.
Trading Escobar to get Peavy is worse than signing Lowe.

Who is this Adam Dunn you speak of?
I guess I should be one to talk.

but its sooo boring nowadays, there are very few good fighters and many of the good fighters are turning to MMA… i understand the aversion to the violent natrue of the sport, but if you watch two juijitsu fighters grapple its amazing to watch the calculations and whats gion on in their heads… its just like the sweet science except with about 5 more levels

Not true
The welterweight division is amazing right now. If you wanna see a great fight, watch Cotto vs. Margarito. If Floyd would come out of retirement and fight Margarito we would have a classic. I think he is gonna fight Pacquiao, which should be a good fight too.
Also the super middle weight division is exploding right now as well. A week or 2 ago, Froch vs. Pascal, great fight. The other night on versus, Adamek vs. Cunningham was a great fight(crusierweight fight).
Its just the heavyweights which are horrible, I mean dreadfully bad. I pray David Haye can pull off a miracle and get rid of the Klitschkos. I doubt he will be able to beat Vitali though, doesn’t have the chin to. Hope I am wrong though.

We don't have that kind of $
After the trade for Vazquez, we have just barely over 30 Million left. Sheets if going to want 14Mil, Manny is going to want 20mil, and we have already gone over budget without even mentioning Smoltz. Its sound good but we can’t afford it.

Why is everyone so anti-Manny?? He’s a beast. Look at how “well-behaved” Gary Sheffield was when he played here? I say lets give it another shot. Let Manny be Manny and drive in 120 runs from the middle of our lineup. Chipper would hit .400 easy cause no one would want to pitch to Manny! And B-Mac would be madddd RBI opportunities every time they walk him.

Greg Norton
Whats the latest on him? I hope this isn’t another Daryle Ward situation where we let him go and end up replacin him with a guy like Woodward. I mean he needs to be resigned he was great as a guy off the bench, if we are serious about winning we need to get him signed.

Cause he’s not a big name, you probably won’t hear a thing about him until he signs, or is just about to. But SB is right, there’s nothing dime a dozen about Norton, just like there was nothing dime a dozen about Ward. Hopefully they don’t make the same mistake.

Norton had a .788 OPS for us last season. Those types of utility guys are not a dime a dozen.

At this point Dunn and Sheets would be enough to make me happy.
That Japanese pitcher isn’t too shabby either, but those guys can be risky (i.e. Igawa)

Um... which one?
Saito?
And, really, I had no idea Japanese pitchers were riskier than their American counterparts.

They’re riskier in the sense that teams tend to spend huge amounts of money on them based on a track record from Japan, where as teams tend to spend smaller amounts (still talking millions but it the difference between a 2-6 million dollar signing bonus and a 30-50 million dollar contract) on US amateur players based on their potential. The US players are typically 18-22 while the Japanese players are around or older than 30. When the Japanese guys don’t perform immediately, it’s a bust cause they’re too old to recover. Plus, the level of play in Japan seems to be pretty hard to determine, but it’s not on par with the Major League. 4-A guys over here go over there and dominate.
So yeah, I’d definitely agree, the Japanese players are far riskier than their US counterparts.
