Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

There were indications Thursday morning that the Braves were preparing a final push for Burnett and that they would guarantee a fifth year on his contract.

"I don't think we're done," one team official said.

Burnett's representatives were expected to contact interested clubs Thursday, giving them one last chance to beat the Yankees offer of five years and approximately $85 million.

I don't like.

Bidding against the Yankees for anything. They can make expensive mistakes, we can’t.

This definitely puts me out of my comfort zone as a Braves fan. I’m not used to this free agent bidding. That said, pull the trigger Wren. It needs to be done.

Peavy might be coming full circle again…

by soup du jour on Dec 11, 2008 1:29 PM EST reply actions

nope

If he wants a few extra million to play for the Yankees then fine. No reason for Wren to offer more than what he has offered. Im sure the Yankees then would make ANOTHER offer, no reason for this to get in the 100 million range. Leave it at this. IF the Yankees want Burnett there gonna get him no matter if we come out and offer more than what the Yankees just offered that is IF Burnett really wants to play for the Yankees. Who know his agent could be tryin to milk every dollar he can and then if the Braves dont match he goes to the Braves if Burnett really wants to. Who knows whats in Burnetts mind at this point.

I mentioned this in another thread, but the Padres-Cubs deal is dead. Now’s our chance to get back in the Peavy game. Do it.

I still just don’t like the reported price for Peavy. That trade opens up more holes than it fills.

by gondeee on Dec 11, 2008 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

That is the beauty of the Peavy deal now...

It won’t open up holes because Towers has lost all of his leverage.

by Andy Braves Fan on Dec 11, 2008 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder what would happen if...

The Braves came back with $85,000,001, and maybe a stack of some green and black chips from the Bellagio, along with a pair of buffet vouchers.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Throw in..

a customized Hummer with a stripper pole, and the deal’s done….

by sddbaker on Dec 11, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Now now...

He was playing for Toronto on a $54 million contract.

So he’s already got one. Duh!

Wow, I didn’t initially read that ‘Hummer’ meaning the car.

Oh my goodness, I had to look that up — I had not heard that one…

OMG

I seriously think someone has tainted the water in america. You guys (and gals) are in mid-season form and we haven’t even gotten to the new year yet. Pace yourselves my friends, otherwise you’ll blow your load before spring training starts.

Are you implying one time is all you got?

I’m 40, nuff said.

And risk letting internets jokes get old before I can beat them into the ground? My friend, you have another thing in mind if you think I, for one will run out of BS to spout in the middle of spring training.

• Stories from Canada after I return from the WBC
• Road trip stories
• Vegas stories and failing to bet on the Braves
• Inevitable June slump
• Inevitable game when Chipper goes down
• Complaints about umpires squeezing Jair Jurrjens and being mean to Yunel Escobar
• Complaints about Cubs fans when they inevitably come to Atlanta

There is MUCH to be discussed, with debate over hot baseball wives, pop culture references, bad movies, music, and beer choices, among many other things.

NO WAY!

I’d give my left, uh … pink toe? … to go see the WBC. I’m excited about it but I haven’t kept up. Do you know which teams will be playing?

Pool C – in Toronto. I’m attempting to go see USA vs. Canada, but uwouldn’t mind seeing Venezuela’s players go nuts.

Get a real job.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

if they gave him season tickets to UGA football, would that be what drives him to new york?

I probably care about sports way too much. Like, waaaaaaaaay too much.
