Braves will make [Mike Hampton] an offer, but are letting his agent talk to other teams at his request to see what’s out there. Hampton really likes Atlanta and pitching for Bobby Cox, but his primary home is in Arizona now and he’d ideally like to pitch out west for San Diego, Arizona or Houston, though it’s not clear if any of them are going to make an offer comparable to what Braves might.
He’s looking for a one-year deal, knows his injury history precludes anything longer. Probably something with a base salary of about $4-5 mill and incentives for starts or innings….

I'm for it
He’s cheap and worth a shot as a 4th-5th starter.
Not bad
But I’d rather see a much lower base-salary, but have a more generous tiered-system for incentive bonuses. I’m not saying at 200 innings, but given his track record, more baby steps, for smaller incremental increases.
$2 mil guaranteed
+$2 mil for 10th start
+$2 mil for 20th start
+$2 mil for 30th start (lol)
Or perhaps something along those lines but measured by innings, or quality starts, so he doesn’t go out and give exactly 5.0 IP starts. Bonuses are also a great way to get around some of the financial loopholes in the salary system, and if he signs lower with lots of possibility for incentive, the bottom line looks lower as well.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Will probably hail any Mike Hampton signing as a “big splash” and how he is going to be our #1 starter for next year….until he gets hurt warming up on opening day. Shit.
