Rick Ankiel
i know a lot of us have been talking about the possibility of getting ryan ludwick from the cards, but what about getting ankiel instead? i'm pretty sure he is a FA after next year, but i just like the idea of having him in the OF much better than that of Ludwick. Anyone think this is a good idea? or am I the only one? Would we have to give up more in a trade for him or Ludwick?

…what about Delmon Young? In Rosenthal’s latest post he says a rival GM says that Young is “very, very much out there”

I don’t dislike Delmon like some people do. I think he’s still got lots of potential, with good power and speed. The problem is his strikeout rate. I think he’s definitely better than Frenchy overall, but I’m not sure how it would be to have two high-K guys in the same lineup.

Two Francoeurs sums it up. Plus Young’s defense in the outfield is awful.

Since when? I saw him a ton in AAA and he was an above average defender. I really didn’t watch the Twins much last year, has he gotten that bad?

One final word...
attitude. He may not be a BC type of guy.

I was under the impression we were looking for a right handed bat for LF.

Um, pass...
I’m not high on Ankiel – he hits the ball hard, but he’s completely one dimensional. OBP over the last two years is just a hair above .330. I’m not in the know about his contract situation, but if he is only signed through 2009, it would be a very bad move unless we give absolutely nothing in return.

im for it
if we can hammer out an extension for a few years at say 10 mil per before we complete the trade and give up kelly and gorkys plus maybe lower level guy then im good with it this guy has a cannon and can play center also

That would be a bad trade for us
Ankiel is around three years older, probably more expensive in the long term, not a significantly better hitter than KJ, and a below average defender in center – realistically, he’s a right fielder. So, with that in mind, do you want to trade an above average second baseman and prospects for an above average corner outfielder? I think that even if we disregard the money, that’s not a good idea considering the fact that we don’t really have a replacement for KJ and there are corner outfielders available in free agency.

10M for Ankiel? as was mentioned he is kind of a one trick pony, he hits the ball hard occasionally and then it goes far… but he has a low batt avg and a low OBP… i think he is a good player but giving up more for ankiel than ludwick doesnt make sense… Ludwick’s minor leauge nbrs prove last year wasnt a brady anderson fluke year… he benefitted from a higher than normal BABIP but he is a very complete hitter.

Maybe.
If we can get him on the cheap (maybe straight up for Soriano?) I think I’d be interested.
