Braves to Offer Furcal contract?
According to www.MLBTraderumors.com, it's not the Oakland A's but the Braves who are reportedly discussing a 4 year, $52 million deal with Furcal. The article MLBTR links to is in spanish, which is why I didn't link to it.
In my opinion, there's no way Wren offers $13 million/year for Furcal unless he has a potential trade in the making involving Yunel. Do you guys have any thoughts on this?

I'm an outsider
but I’d take Yunel over Furcal anyday.
Honest question: Has there been any friction b/w Bobby Cox and Escobar?
I know that's a pisser, baby.

I don’t know for sure, but my guess would be yes.

Unless Bobby and Yunel are closet homosexuals...

As much as people comment on Escobar's hot head
Escobar appears to have a good relationship with Bobby Cox, at least I think. He knows that he’s in charge, and knows that there are rules to abide by. There’s never an issue with lack of hustle with Escobar, because he’s always playing hard. I’d rather watch guys who play with their hearts and emotions over robots like Mark Teixeira and JD Drew.
One instance of good interaction between Escobar and Cox that comes to mind is when the Braves were slaughtering someone in a game, and Escobar beat out a throw to home coming in from second on a single, and when he got back into the dugout, Bobby yelled at him. Escobar didn’t quite understand the unspoken rule of not running up the score unnecessarily, and pouted in the dugout, and cameras picked up Andruw Jones, Brayan Peña and Chino Cadahia speaking with him. A few minutes later, they showed Escobar approaching Bobby, pointing at himself in a humble manner, and then holding out the respect knuckles and which Bobby gave back. Escobar doesn’t have do to stuff like that, and could’ve left Bobby to awkwardly attempt to downplay the situation in a post-game, but he seems to respect him enough to be a man about it, admit his err and lack of understanding, and clear the air about it immediately. Don’t quite think you’d do that with someone you have friction with.

I would have to say that if this is true, a trade would almost certainly have to be in place. I hope it is true, I’ve always liked Furcal – even if he was injured last year. I think he can still be productive.

That would be an expensive SS. But….if it nets us Peavy, I think we should do it. We have tons of money to spend.

The sudden drop in Peavy rumors
makes me think that a deal may go down here soon. I think Wren is more of a hush hush guy. This is speculation, he could be gearing up a totally different trade. I kinda like a Javier Vasquez/Jermaine Dye trade myself.

I was thinking the same thing about the whole Peavy trade. I think we can still get Vazquez and very well may…he certainly wouldn’t cost a guy like Escobar. He may not even be that pricey considering his problems with Ozzie.

agreed.
Dye and Vasquez would trump a trade for Peavy in my opinion. As Long as we’re not trading anyone other than Yunel.

Do It!
Guys if we get Furcal back I will be estatic! We havent had a good lead off hitter since Furcal left. Yes he gets hurt but when he’s healthy, he’s still better then Escobar. If this happens, you know Peavy will be coming to the ATL! We have the money so spend it. Lets Do It!!!!!

you guys are forgetting one thing and that is that Dye is a right fielder. Which means you either have to trade Francouer for almost nothing or move him to left field and he wasn’t that good in right last year i really doubt he’s going to be good in left. I brought up Vazquez about a month ago when it was first reported that he might be available and nobody liked the idea then what changed?

I think Dye would be moved to LF, at least thats my assumption

That would make the most sense. Using some of the more common defensive metrics, Dye was slightly below average in RF, but ought to do fine in LF.

Vazquez is garbage, just look at his stats. Dye would be a decent pick-up, certainly better than Ludwick. Still want Maggs, though.

Garbage?
Vazquez is not garbage, his stats are very good for a hitter friendly league, and Dye is about 6 million dollars cheaper than Maggs, so he is a better pickup. Furcal for 13 million a year is just rediculous though. Also Left field is an easier position than right field so Dye could move over and we would have Blanco or Anderson for late inning defensive replacement.

And as power hitting OFs go, Dye could be a lot worse at defending. Don’t make me go find the Raul Ibanez gifs.

You know
As much amusement I get out of the Raul Ibañez gifs, I’d bet Mariners fans would be more willing to forgive them if he hit a “holy shit” home run every few games or now, like Dunn tends to do. The Reds lose a game, but Dunn goes 1-for-4, but that 1 is a home run that breaks a piece of Shea’s scoreboard. Fans still love him.

Oh and Furcal for maybe 11 million per year is much more palatable.

Not Happening!
Furcal just got back from DR and already visited the city of Oakland, the staduim and sat down with Billy Beane. Furcal unfortunaly is not coming to ATL. He might be signing with a team in the Bay Area any day now.
