Any interest in Dontrelle?
Dontrelle Willis had an awful year last year in his first season with Detroit. He was a very good pitcher for years in the NL East for years before that. At this point his value is worlds below where it was last year. It would be nice to see the Barves kick the tires on him and see what it might cost. If he was able to get back to his old form for a couple of mid level prospects then I would jump on that. SI.com has said that there were whispers of a trade of him for Julio Lugo of the Red Sox who has been underperforming for them so my guess is they are redy to take what they can get for him. He is a great clubhouse guy and would most likely be on the cheap. I say check it out.

Unless Detroit was going to pay 90% or more of his salary, I wouldn’t give much more than a few bats and a couple bags of balls for him. He just hasn’t shown anything over the last few years to make me believe he’s going to “find himself” again. The Red Sox can afford to take on risky salary, but we just can’t compete if we have “dead” salaries on our team.

I'd rather
Jam staples into my tongue then eat some “fresh off the vine” jalapenos. We already have better options than him, not to mention the cost in both salary and prospects given up.

Unless Dontrelle’s wife was giving birth to a kid every five games, would I want him on the squad. The night his wife was due, Dontrelle was dominant, Dontrelle was efficient, and Dontrelle was even hitting. It was like a 2:10 minute game, and then he bolted. And that was the last time I ever saw Dontrelle Willis actually good.
Other than that, chalk up his 22-win 2005 season as a fluke. He’s shown no glimpses that he’ll ever be that good again, and his annual increases of hits, walks, ERs, ERA, WHIP, even wild pitches, and losses, as well as injuries, and his annual decreases of starts, wins, innings, and Ks further don’t do him any justice.
I know that sometimes teams have to take chances in order to strike gold, and Dontrelle is both a gamer and a pretty good athlete, as well as a positive influence on any clubhouse, but this one, I wouldn’t want to take the risk on.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

How he won 22 games is beyond my understanding, I never thought he was that great. But hey, if they would pay most of his salary and we give them a bag of balls, we might as well do it.

Dontrelle sucked for the previous two years before he exploded. Acquiring him was a terrible move for Detroit and acquiring him while his mechanics are a mess would be an even more terrible move. And that’s ignoring the contract.

He certainly wasn’t free if that’s what you were implying.

Back your claim up because Willis was being shopped last fall apart from Cabrera.

i’m not digging through year old articles to satisfy your curiosity. i do remember when the deal was made, willis being inexplicably included and that was the only thing that made sense among every baseball person.

It’s not to satisfy a curiousity, it’s to give your claim some actual support.

I’m interested in not having him on the team.
I would take Miguel Cabrera though.

2006-2008
4.75 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 6.44 K/9 in 76 GS. Do you want to give that 2/$22M right now?
