The Hanson and T-Flow Show, Redux
Tommy Hanson and Tyler Flowers are just sick, sick, sick. Their lines from today's game:
Hanson's line - 5IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 10SO, I'll repeat that, 10SO! (49SO in 28.2IP)
Flowers' line - 3-for-4 with a HR and 3RBI, BB (his 12th HR this fall)
I'm beside myself that these two keep doing this good. This is likely Hanson's last start this fall unless the Mesa Solar Sox make the playoffs, and that could very well happen. Today's win was the Sox' sixth win in a row, and they remain tied at the top of their division. If they win their division, Hanson could make the start in the championship game on Saturday.
Here is a link to what they did last week.

Damn...
they’re clearly better right now than anyone else in the AFL. It’s certainly not a lock that they end up as above average major leaguers, but I would put money on it right now.

Flowers
After his showing in spring training, I think this guy has to join the Hanson/Heyward untouchable team. If he is even marginally competent defensively, he sure adds a HUGE safety cushion to our catching situation.

Love It!
Hanson should start at AAA and Flowers at AA, so they could/should see some time in Atlanta in 2009 along with Schafer. As exciting as Heyward and some others are, they’re still a ways a way…

hanson is going to be something special
But I’m getting sick of all the naysayers saying it’s just the AFL. I might be wrong when I say this, but doesn’t the AFL usually consist of some of baseball’s BEST prospects?

Yes, it does
but you have to remember that a lot of baseball’s best prospects never turn into anything more than replacement level major leaguers. He’s blowing these guys away, and that does mean something, but I’m not sure that it means slotting him in for a major league job before he faces AAA competition.

Regardless of it being the AFL, the fact that Hanson’s been pitching since the middle of FEBRUARY and is still this good is just astounding.

I’ve heard the AFL is the equivalent of AA/AAA with a fairly strong tendency towards offense. That makes Hanson look just that much better. With his new slider taking pressure off his fastball, along with his knee-buckling curve and improving changeup, Hanson is the real deal.

The way I look at it is there are other pitching prospects in the league that are more highly touted than Hanson (Buchholtz, Hughes, Scherzer) and none of them has dominated like Hanson has. No matter what the level of competition pitching like he has is still an accomplishment

He absolutely was, but it was in Low A ball, not High A and AA and certainly not in the AFL.

that david price fellow was also pretty good too. if you’re leaving him off the list because he ended the season in tampa…all 3 guys you mentioned had spurts with the big club too
